Walking (Gingerly) & Scheduled Torture

Last Friday I was finally able to set aside the single crutch I'd been using for a week or so and start walking, gingerly, on the "Darth Vader boot" as Ed calls it.  I'm fine on floors, but gardening on Saturday was challenging due to the uneven ground.  I was so pleased to be a little more mobile I probably overdid it, gardening several hours on Saturday and housecleaning several hours on Sunday.  Half the spring vegetable garden is planted though and the house is  cleaner than it's been since I broke my ankle.

I also started Physical Therapy last Thursday.  In a weird way, I actually enjoy PT even though it's often painful.  I've been to this facility before for shoulder problems, and the people are great.  A Physical Therapist is a bit like a personal trainer, but focused on recovering basic functionality after an injury.  After just one session, the range of motion I could move my ankle through was dramatically increased.  I'll probably have a total of 4-6 weeks of PT as part of this recovery.

Honestly, sitting around is getting VERY old.  I drove today for the first time since this injury, and the five minutes to the PT facility was plenty of driving.  It's a bit of a pain to get in the van, take off the boot, put on a shoe, and drive.  It was also a little painful actually driving.  I think it would be BAD if I had to slam on the brakes.  There's a possibility that next weeks appointment will include moving to a slightly less awkward ankle support that doesn't have to be taken off for driving.

Still haven't weighed again.  I'm resigned to just waiting to see where I end up and starting exercise again after this recovery is over.  I THINK I'm doing okay with eating, and I'm certainly seeing lots of opportunities to resist stress and boredom eating these days...

broken ankle, health
