It was one of life's great mysteries, Adrian thought, that it was possible to ace every test the Academy threw at trainee pilots and still be completely unable to master a simple racing game. He swore under his breath as he braked too late and smashed into the wall that ran alongside the track.
He'd intended to go and get some food after Zan had left, but the games console had caught his eye in passing. And this particular game was swiftly becoming his nemesis. Which was how he came to be still sitting in one of the chairs clustered around the console hours later, stubbornly ignoring the sporadic complaints from his stomach. He was determined to get a decent run even if it took him all night.
He was aware of someone standing somewhere behind him, presumably watching. "Pull up a chair," he said, not looking away from the screen; "Like everything worthwhile in life, it's more fun with two."
