At exactly 7:43PM, something very... Strange, will occur. If your character's laptop is currently off, then it will start by itself. If it is on, however, it will not respond until all of the characters' laptops have finished loading. Once all the laptops have loaded, a file called "re__re__1931.txt" will open itself.

Should you try to close the file, you will find that it simply refuses to close. However, after two minutes have passed, another line will be added to the end of the message...

HINT: The numbered have played the game; nine digits are game over.

As soon as you have read that, you will computer will automatically shut down. Should you turn it on once again, you will find that the files "tenebrae.exe", "how_to_play.txt", and "re__re__1931.txt" have been added to your desktop. None of them seem to open, however.
So, after a few, erm... Road bumps, the New Year's event is finally up!
I'm typing this up from memory, since I lost the original file, so if you think I missed anything (which I'm sure I most definitely did, or if there's something you don't understand, ask.
This event will last two days (kind of). The hours that are shown after the December 31st mark are meant to be used loosely; meaning that if something says 8:01PM, it will not happen all at 8:01PM.
As mentioned above, at exactly 7:43PM (not real time; just there are reference for your characters), all computers will synchronize (as in, they will not respond until all the laptops in the town are in the same state) and a file called "re__re__1931.txt" will open itself.
Your laptop will not respond for the next two minutes, and after those two minutes have passed, the "hint" will be added at the end of the message, as soon as your character reads that, the laptop will automatically shut down. The next time your character turns it on, the files "tenebrae.exe", "how_to_play.txt", and "re__re__1931.txt" will be on the desktop, but will not open if clicked.
Now, your character will be left to stare at the newly added files in terror, fear, confusion, amusement, or any combination of the four for a good, long while.
And then... At exactly 8:00PM, your character will feel and see something liquid and sticky and black drip from the ceiling and land on their face.
There will be a sharp sting, and everything will fade to black.
December 31st
8:10PM
Regardless of what they were doing earlier, your character will suddenly find themselves in a mansion, dressed in formal attire, and sitting down in a dining table with your laptop neatly set under your seat. Soon enough, they will realize that, not counting the other characters, they are not the only ones in this place.
No, there are not any creepy-crawlers or zombies that will jump out of impossible places to eat your brains. Actually, around you, sitting down, talking, laughing, are hundreds of people you don't recognize, but at the same time... They look familiar.
...And then you realize that you recognize some of them from the hotel's staff.
The room is decorated in a way that may or may not remind your character of
another, similar situation, complete with a glass chandelier, a stage filled with skilled musicians playing a classical number, and fine dining.
Now, before your character wanders off to discover where the hell they are, the music will stop playing, and a man who appears to be in his late forty’s with black and yellow eyes will walk on-stage. If the fact that he has gathered everyone's attention without saying a word isn't shocking enough, then his next words are.
"Good evening, dear guests! I am your Host for the night, owner of the Ravis Seur hotel, Victor Seur! How are you enjoying the party?!"
Should your character choose this moment to go kick drop dear old Victor Seur's ass, they will find that, no matter who they attempt to touch, they will go right through them. And, to make things worse, they won't even notice that you exist, no matter how many drinks you spill on them or how many pieces of furniture you break.
However, the other guests (as, in, the NPCs), will take this moment to cheer, obviously enjoying this party, or whatever this is.
Your Host will go on about something you don't really understand--something about anniversaries, birthdays, apprentices, and retirement, and then, he'll give a simple nod to one of the musicians, and the party will go on.
Your character is now free explore the mansion, enjoy some of the food offered, waltz along with the other guests, and just do some general finding out where the hell you are and why.
But, as soon as the song that is currently playing is finished, your character will turn around, and find the boy you saw at the church, the little girl, and two unknown adults (parents, from the look of it) sitting at a table near the stage.
Should you decide to get closer to them, the boy will whisper something to the girl, and they will both stand up to go over to the tables where food is being offered. Upon further inspection, you'll notice that the numbers on his neck are missing.
8:59PM
Now, if your character wants to explore the mansion, this is the chance. Upon taking a good, long walk around the place, they will notice several things:
* If you look out the window, or go up to the balcony on the third floor, you will notice something very... Peculiar. The whole town looks... Well, like a normal town should. The night sky is filled with stars, the civilians are actually behaving like normal human beings, there are people entering the buildings, and there are cars driving down the street.
* You can't exit the mansion. Should you attempt to get out by jumping out a window, or off the balcony, you'll only find yourself back at the table you started in.
* If your character goes to the kitchen, they will find a handful of staff members (complete with Refectory uniforms, oddly enough) working on a dinner; including a young man who looks eerily similar to the boy you saw in the church, save for the fact that he has black hair and amethyst eyes.
* The master bedroom up in the second floor is locked.
* In the first floor bathroom, you will find small spots of a sticky, black liquid all over the sink .
* Up in the second floor, in the bedroom closest to the master bedroom, you will find two laptops identical to your own; one on the bed, another on the desk. The one on the desk will have a BSOD, while the one of the bed will simply have a black screen with the words "GAME OVER: PLAY AGAIN?" in the middle of the screen. Neither of the laptops seems to respond when your characters attempts to turn them off, or get them to do something.
* Should you go up to the balcony, you will notice that there is a dent on the railing. Upon further inspection, you will notice that part of it is cut of, as if somebody hit the railing with a heavy, sharp object.
* The boy and the little girl can be found eating in the same table where you found them.
* A woman with red hair and yellow eyes can be seen standing next to Victor Seur in front of the stage, thinking about something.
* In a corner of the room, you can find a woman with black hair and green eyes; she seems to be just watching everyone else, however.
9:40PM
At exactly 9:30PM, the file "re__re__1931.txt" will open itself once again, and just like earlier, something new has been added at the end.
HINT: Count down.
Seven, eight.
There's no ______.
Don't worry.
You've seen this before.
When your character finished reading that "hint", the lights will flicker on and off for a few seconds, but the NPCs don't really seem to notice.
You do, still... And you know it's not a trick of the light when you see all of the NPCs around you as corpses with different numbers tattooed into the back of their hand when the lights flicker. Everything looks normal within a second, however.
10:01PM
The same staff members you saw in the kitchen will start to serve dinner to all of the guests, including to the tables where your character woke up, despite the fact that, from their point of view, nobody is there.
The food looks more then just edible, and, more importantly, it's safe to eat, should your character wish to do so.
Now, besides the fact that the staff just served food to an empty table, your character might notice several things... Like, say, Victor Seur going up to the second floor followed by the woman with black hair, the woman with red hair and the young man you saw in the kitchen stepping out of the mansion through the front door, and the little girl clinging to the boy for her dear life.
Should you follow Victor Seur and the woman, you'll find yourself locked out of the master bedroom. Should you go after the woman and the young man, you'll find yourself unable to exit the mansion. And, should you go to where the little girl and the boy are, you'll find your ears blown up by the pitch of her "big brother, I want ice-cream" rant.
11:11PM
By now, the young man and the red haired woman have come back (and have gone their separate ways when nobody was looking, oddly enough), the little girl has stopped whining, and a handful of the other guests are a little more than just tipsy, some having decided that a punch bowl is a wonderful fashion accessory, while others are glued to their seat, mingling, while enjoying the music.
The woman who had gone up to the second floor with Victor Seur is now sitting alone in one of the empty tables. Occasionally, it may seem like she's smiling at you, but that can't be right, since nobody can see you.
...Right?
11:41PM
Victor Seur has now returned to the room, although, he doesn't seem to spare as much as a glance to the woman who was following him up to the second floor earlier.
In fact, it's like she doesn't exist at all for him.
The woman with red hair will say something to him along the lines of "the keys are in the back", and he will nod before she returns with the young man you saw in the kitchen earlier. Victor will then wander over to go speak with the two adults you saw the boy from the church and the little girl with, and they will start to talk. If you listen closely, you can hear this from the conversation:
"Your son--"
"Influential... Don't have... Problems."
"Isn't that--?"
"Reality is--"
"--be my Apprentice."
"He'd screw up the job."
"But--"
Before the conversation can continue, one of the staff members will whisper something to Victor, and he will leave.
11:58PM
The music has stopped and the woman with red hair has walked onto the stage and started rambling about all the "achievements" they have made here in Enlever Town over the last year. There are only seconds between this year and the next, and all the NPCs seem happy. If you listen closely, some may even refer to her as The Manager.
Once they start counting, however, the woman with black hair and green eyes will simply smile, look at you directly in the eye, and then say:
"Isn't it sad that this is the last time they'll ever be together like this, dear guests~? I mean... Can you see the liar like I do?"
And then, once you blink, she's gone and there are only ten seconds left.
You look back at the other NPCs, confused, and then... All the NPCs, except for the woman with red hair (who is standing next to Victor) and the boy you saw in the church (who is holding the little girl), as corpses. Some are missing limbs, others their heads, and the killing blows differ from person to person.
Most notably, the little girl seems to have all her internal organs out, the young man in the kitchen is covered in third degree burns, the adults you saw with the little girl and the boy both have crushed skulls and their limbs are bent in an awkward manner, and... Victor Seur is missing his head.
Just before the countdown is over, you will most definitely see the number 1151 tattooed into the woman's shoulder, and the number 999999999 on the boy's neck.
January 1st
As soon as they countdown reaches 0, the lights will go out, and when they come back in, the mansion will be empty and worn down. It looks as if somebody has been living here up until quite recently, however, as there is barely any dust to be found.
Your characters are more than invited to crash anywhere in mansion, however, there are a few things you might like to check out:
* If you look out the windows, or go up to the balcony on the third floor, you character will notice something very important: the snow is gone and the town is back to normal.
* In the kitchen, you will find small spots of dried up blood in kitchen counters and sink. There will also be a French knife covered in flakes of dried up blood under one of counters, as if somebody cut themselves, dropped it, and then kicked it under the counter.
* If you go into the living room up in the third floor, you will find that all the electronics in that room seem to be a little... Faulty. The TV will flicker on and off, showing only white noise, the desktop computer will crash and show you a BSOD as soon as it loads, and the only sound the radio will emit is a high pitched wail.
* The laptop with the BSOD in the second floor is now gone. The one with the black screen, however, is now in the process of deleting all of its files.
* The master bedroom in the second floor is now open. Nothing seems to be out of the ordinary, unless you stand in front of the vanity's mirror. If you do this, you will see "yromem sih rof llA" written on the wall.
* There might be a moment in which you will turn around, feeling that something is behind you, and for a split second, you will see somebody smiling at you. This will only happen once to each character.
* Should you go near the first floor bathroom, you will hear the sound of water running. If you enter, there will be nobody. The "water" you hear running from the faucet, however, is not water, but a sticky, black substance. If you touch it, you will feel a sensation of burning; if you do not remove it within the next five minutes, the skin that came in contact with it will turn a vivid red, and it will start to ooze puss.
All characters are invited to look around the mansion and claim any room or seat as theirs, as well as raiding the kitchen, for there is edible food in there. The bathrooms in the second floor will have normal water instead of that black goo.
Your characters will still be stuck in the mansion without being able to exit. However, at exactly 8:00PM, "re__re__1931.txt" will open itself once again, with another new line.
Cover your neck, won't you?
Before your character can even react will feel a sharp sting on their neck, as if somebody put a needle in there, and everything will fade to black (you can tell we abuse the fade to black effect, can't you?).
They will wake up back in their hotel rooms. The files "tenebrae.exe", "how_to_play.txt", and "re__re__1931.txt" are still there, but they will not open.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. As I've said before, this was written from memory due to the fact that I lost the original file, so it's quite possible that I might have missed something.
[ooc; If you have any questions or comments, reply to this entry but Out Of Character. Remember, this is an intercom message.]
