Last year, I started using a chimney to start the coals rather than the starter fluid that I'd used forever. Right off the bat, it's worked great, giving fast, consistent results. The only wrinkle I forsee is a lack of newsprint in the future.

Just before it's time to dump the coals, the flame going up the chimney looks ideal for fire-roasting peppers, so often now when I start a fire I'll roast a small number of them (about 3 medium/small is what will fit). It's worked quite well:




The only problem is I need to refine my methods for dealing with hot skewers.
