I've been putting off updating, because there's just so much - which of course leads to there being even more, and it's a vicious cycle. So anyway...
So my mom is apparently losing her store, on top of everything else. She's actually feeling pretty optimistic about that one, though. For those who don't know: a couple years ago, my mom finally followed through on her lifelong dream of opening a New Age/Metaphysical book and gift store. I guess it finally stopped breaking even, and she couldn't make the rent in the storefront she had, but she's going to rebrand and reopen elsewhere. She's thinking of laying off the gifts and books, except a few ritual essentials like candles, and just having a bunch of readers (tarot/psychic/etc) and teachers operating out of a smaller place. She says Maine Pagan Pride is offering some support, so that's good.
My cat is settling in pretty well, but the other cat (Rascal) is terrified of her and we've had to coax him out of hiding. He's getting better, but he's still doing his business on Daniel's mom's rug rather than risk running into Grace on the way to the basement litterbox.
In much better news, I got a job! I'm working part-time as a barista - not what I want to be doing, obviously, and not what I went back to school for, but it's a job, it's fun, and the part-time deal lets me ease myself back into the work habit after almost 30 months of unemployment. If you're ever at the Brookline Library on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, come down to the cafe and say hi!
