We got rain last night!! There was a big storm, with heavy winds, lightning, and thunder. It was AWESOME. We ended up with 1.4" near the house. That's the most rain we've gotten since January. And this storm was a fluke, since the high that's been sitting over us for basically all of the year just happened to kick a disturbance our way. The storm lasted a good two hours, and our lights flickered a couple of times.
I went to the library yesterday evening because I'm almost done with my current book. (OMG I am so happy I found the library since we're rather money poor right now and being able to check out books is the only way I've been able to read this past week.) I saw the dark clouds on the north horizon as I was headed home. I told Mom she would want to close her windows and sun roof because it might rain. About five minutes after she did that, the outflow boundary from the storm hit and winds picked up to 40mph, the sky got dark, and the temperature dropped at least 15 degrees. I stood outside in the heavy wind until I couldn't stand it any more (mainly because the wind was kicking up leaves and other detritus from the next-door-neighbor's gutters and flinging them in my face at high speed, which stung like crazy). It was gorgeous.
However, because of how Hurricane Irene is going to influence the pressure systems here, they're forecasting a high somewhere near the record of 109° by Sunday. That's the high, not the heat index. YUCK. I'm upset enough about having to be out in it tomorrow to see Monica and get my meds from the pharmacy. So gross.
Ah, that reminds me that I need to do some laundry this evening so that I'll have clean clothes to put on tomorrow morning. *sigh* I'm also doing my absolute best to stay up today and not take a nap so that I can go to sleep and stay that way until I wake up tomorrow. So far, so good, but I've only been awake for two hours, so it's early yet.
I forgot to mention: It's 2:15pm and only 90° outside. I can't remember the last time that it wasn't already at or near 100° by this point in the day. I feel like I need to pull out a sweater with this chilly air!
