We had rain today! LOTS! Near the house, they are reporting about 2". That's AWESOME. Not so awesome for my body, since it's felt like I was run over by an 18-wheeler, then he backed up over me, and ran over me again. Only to then be squashed by the steam roller following the 18-wheeler. (My friend Bryan said, "Because sugar melts, silly..." in response to my Facebook status that said, "Rain: great for the yard, not so good for my body." I love him so much.)

Naturally, this follows Mom watering the yard for the past two nights. She's decided that she'd rather do it than have the weird neighbor do it for us. I still say that if the cranky woman wants our lawn watered, she can damn well do it herself. I learned something last night. Mom had started the sprinkler, and, to be nice, I offered to go out and move it. Unfortunately, I went out completely unprepared. I didn't think to ask about where the spigot was, and I thought that our sprinkler was one of those ones that has the arm that rotates so I could potentially grab it while it was pointed away from me, and then move it before it got me wet. Well, it turned out that Mom has a sprinkler that rotates around a central axis in a circle, so there's no getting away from the spray. I also couldn't see the damn thing in the dark, as it was buried in the side planting bed when I walked out. It had caused a puddle, in which I soaked both feet and my indoor flip-flops (they're coated in terry-cloth). I tried just yanking the hose to get it out, and that just tipped it up and caused it to spray the front door. Sis thought it was raining. I finally got the damn thing out and into the next spot of yard that needed to be watered, but only after being soaked from head to toe. I was planning on taking a shower, but not until the next day. :)

In other news, my best friend Cristina, Bryan's wife, did something AWESOME for me the other day. The MPCV, the new capsule NASA's going to be using if we ever get the Orion project back on the board, went through Austin the other day. She went downtown to go take pictures of it. Just for me. She said in her text to me: "I heard about this on the news and thought of you."

Finally, I gave one of my knitted shawls that I've been saving to give to the church to Cole. He seemed like he really wanted something that was all his, and he kept trying to get on the one I was working on. He was also sleeping in the box that I had my other ones stored in. So he now has his very own shawl to sleep on. We were concerned for a little while about giving him one, since he used to have a thing about eating knitted goods (we don't know why, but hand-knitted blankets/scarves would look moth-eaten, but Cole would be the one with yarn in his poop). He seems to have grown out of it now, thank goodness. And he's so happy to have a spot of his very own. We put it folded up on the chair he sleeps on, and he's been sleeping there all day. I'm going to try and get a picture, because it's just so sweet.
