It's rained a good chunk of this week. Up until Friday night, actually. And since I'm in a little bit of a depression, and have nothing to do schedule-wise, I've been just reading, knitting, sleeping, and catching up on movies and tv. It's really awesome to finally have some time off.
Anyway, I've been reading a lot of books by Val McDermid. She's a Scottish author, who wrote the books that the BBC America series Wire In the Blood was based on. I watched the series first, so reading the books that some of the episodes were based on is really cool. What's just a tiny bit frustrating is having to spend time online (usually with wiki) looking up the definitions of British slang/terms for stuff. A lot of the time I can figure it out by contextual clues, but other times - particularly with anagrams with no "These Are The Words", then later use of TATW - it's necessary to look it up. The ones that really threw me were the ones associated with the titles for med students/residents/attendings as used in Britain. Instead of calling them "residents" they are "SHOs" or "Senior House Officers." Same thing, different name. Ah, well.
I'm currently reading Madness by Marya Hornbacher. She wrote an excellent book called Wasted about her fight with anorexia/bulemia. But then, at 24, she was finally diagnosed as a rapid-cycle Bipolar I, which is basically the most dangerous form of bipolar. Like most people, particularly ones with eating disorders, she was diagnosed as just depressed for years. Given just an anti-depressant, which usually makes a bipolar more manic (it happened to me). I'm reading this book and thinking, "Wow, I totally understand a lot of this."
Mom, Sis, and I went to a teppanyaki place last night. Expensive, but well worth it. Such good food, an amazing chef, and really good leftovers. Oh! And a seriously cute flirty waiter. (Teppanyaki is the Japanese food that's cooked in front of you on the table by a chef that does all the nifty knife spinning and fire setting.) And, the Saints won over the Cardinals. A really great night. What was funny was that all three of us had eaten enough that we were all super tired. We all fell asleep about an hour after we got home. I fell asleep upright in a chair. Since I fell into such a deep sleep at 8pm (I then transferred to my bed, but the heavy sleep continued), I woke up at 7am. Unfortunately, I woke up too late to get to church to cheer on the participants in the Houston Marathon as they passed my church at 8am. Oh well.
At some point this afternoon once Mom wakes up, I'm going to clean the cat bathroom (the one where our three little cats who don't socialize with the others live). I've been neglecting my job of changing out the poop container in the littermaid box (the automatic cat box with the rake... awesome thing). I hate doing cleaning like that, but I promised Mom it would be my job, so I'm going to do it. *sigh*
We might also finally fix the banister on the stairs. One of the supports cracked because I had used it to stop my skid that time I fell down the stairs, and Mom uses it to help haul her up the stairs on her bad knees. I went to Lowe's and got much more hefty supports, but, unfortunately, the holes drilled for the original ones weren't located in the studs (ridiculously shoddy workmanship that is), so the screws just wouldn't hold the extra weight. I bought some drywall anchors the other day and I'm going to try to get the thing put up so Mom and Sis can use it. OH! Sis is moving upstairs to her room again today, which means Mom will be moving back to her room. Hopefully, this will mean a lot less stress/strife in the household because Mom will be getting better sleep again. *crosses fingers*
