Chuck 3.01-3.03 "vs The Pink Slip" "vs The 3 Words" "vs The Angel of Death"

Chuck is back and I actually get a chance to talk about it episodically instead of in bunches! It feels strange to be back to watching TV at a specific time after the holiday break when every show I watched took a break (Seeker, Smallville, Merlin ended) and that I started watching Chuck after S2 had already aired and on my own pace. Getting to watch 3 episodes in just over 24 hours is too awesome and reminds me so much of watching the series in batches that I'll want more when it goes back to only once a week for the rest of the season.

  • Chuck & Sarah. Clearly there was going to be a change here after everything was neatly wrapped up (as other storylines were as well) with Sarah choosing Chuck. Made sense to make it Chuck choosing to be a spy that would throw a wrench into things and why they were so distant when S3 started. I enjoyed the end of 3.02 when Carina gave Sarah the flash drive with the video of Chuck's confession. They're a very sweet couple that really works best when they're not together but want to be, I hope the guest stars only make it more fun to watch (seeing Chuck's punch in the previews looks like it will be) and not ruin the atmosphere of the group.
  • Casey & the Cast. Casey might be my favorite character (mostly because Awesome isn't in the episodes as much as he) and 3.03 was just as much his time to shine as it was Awesome & Ellie. I loved how he couldn't join the mission because he was 'The Angel of Death' and then everything that happens afterward that leads to him having his blood in the Premier. Hilarious, especially when Chuck makes Casey do something he doesn't want to do and wants to kill Chuck because of it. Morgan really feels like more of the Buy More supporting cast than a main character anymore, and with the cuts they had to make to get the show going to S3 (losing Anna and Emmett getting shot), and maybe I haven't bought into the Lester/Jeff koolaid but I thought their parts in 3.02 were the boring parts of the episode.
  • Ellie & Awesome. To me, they are as integral to the show as Casey and Sarah. They represent Chuck's 'normal' life while Casey and Sarah represent the 'spy' side. When they were "away" in 3.02, I really felt them missing. When they were back in 3.03 and with big roles in the story the fun was much more there. I like that Devon knows and how he relates to both Ellie and Chuck now, and how he decides that it wouldn't be the life for him giving up everything Chuck gives up. I don't know how I feel about them moving out, but I guess there needed to be a place for Morgan. Also the ending of 3.03 clearly shows that Awesome is going to be getting into the mix of things for better or worse and I am doubly excited about that!
A lot of the first 3 episodes of season 3 was about setting up the status quo, the first one finishing up the stuff left from S2, the second one setting up the stuff for S3 and the third actually playing in the world of S3. I was expecting the cover hideout to have been shifted again (as it was from S1 to S2) and with the Subway love was expecting a sub shop but apparently they didn't go with that. Either way I'm looking forward to a much more entertaining season until that point where they get into the nitty gritty (if they follow S2's trend), the ads for the S2 DVD reminded me how typical every episode was with "STAY IN THE CAR" and then Chuck not staying in the car. Thankfully we will now be skipping that part with Chuck a vital part of the missions and not just the recon now. I'm looking forward to the guest stars showing up in upcoming episodes. Should be an exciting season!
