retro ncis

I've been working on my new NCIS story, which takes place at the beginning of season five.  It's coming, but very slowly - I've been having a hard time "hearing" the characters, for some reason.  So, I've been watching some episodes from season four...

Oh.  Right.  That's why I fell in love with the show.

Technically, I loved it before that, but these are just great reminders of how amazing these characters can be.  Part of my writing problem is that, while I still enjoy watching, I haven't felt that emotional connection with the characters in the past couple of seasons.  It's gone from "I have stories to tell about them!" to "that was fun.  Is NCIS: LA on next?"  I started writing NCIS fic right after season six, when the character...hmmm...warping, let's say, was at its beginning (at least in my opinion).  I kind of wonder if I wasn't writing partly out of frustration with where the characters were going, and trying to recapture some of what I loved.  Two seasons later, that connection is even weaker.

I still love writing about them, though, so I guess watching earlier seasons is my best bet for getting my muse out of its dumpster, or wherever it's hanging out.

My mom cannot stand Tony - she finds him completely annoying.  I need to sit her down to watch "Grace Period" or something along those lines.  My parents didn't start watching the show consistently till season six...I think if she saw the earlier Tony, she'd get it.

OK.  Back to "Cover Story" while I copy over 3000 records from SEVIS manually because the interface sucks and doesn't allow for any kind of direct reporting from the system itself.  ::headdesk::

Today's Baby Update: I can feel him kicking!  Just little thumps right now, and it's so adorable.  I'm sure it won't seem quite so cute when his foot is jammed into my ribcage.

writing, ncis
