settling in....

It was about a year ago that I gave notice to my landlords in Pacifica, CA and started to get rid of virtually all of my worldly goods (yeah, I kept all the Whedon stuff!).  I've spent the last year traveling; I've stayed in hotels, sublets, and been a guest in a lot of people's homes... and I've lived out of my suitcases the whole time, traveling around the country in my trusty (but ancient) Subaru.
And I've gotten REALLY tired of it!
I've been longing to have my own space with my own stuff...  being a vagabond gets really old.

So on July 1st I got a trailer in Utopia Park (where I used to live 4 years ago, just a different trailer) and I started to paint the kitchen cabinets (the rental office supplies the painting supplies and the paint, in a really boring off-white which is a close match to the almond colored old appliances), and I started to move all my stuff out of the storage unit.

July 14th I actually moved into the trailer and today I finally finished painting the kitchen cabinets (it took 3 coats, and there were a lot of them).  I'm actually pretty happy here, although my shoulders really hurt from all the lifting and carrying and stretching and bending.

I'm decorating in a steampunk style... it is very informal (my livingroom will look more like a den, with all my computers and toys where I can play with them) .  I've gotten inexpensive plastic shelves which I've repainted to look like they were made of metal (like copper pipes with bronze/brass fittings):

(I don't know why that is on it's side... but at least you can see it)
and I'm buying furniture which has a kind of Victorian/Art Deco profile (I really wanted a wing backed chair, but the shipping was way too expensive), here is the chair I put together last night:

(heck, this is on it's side too... wtf?)
I am having fun getting set up -  and having a blast unpacking the stuff I love...  old friends who have been locked in storage for nearly a whole year!  I will have touches of elegance in my space since some of the old friends I've just unpacked include my beautiful Turkish carpet and a bunch of paintings my sister painted.

I'll be hosting a houseguest at the end of the month, something I haven't been able to do for over a year!

new home, my stuff, homeless
