I haven't been completely house bound, but for the most part I've been entertaining myself at home....

I just watched The Last King of Scotland from netflix and I have to say it is much more entertaining and watchable than I thought it would be (I knew Forest Whitaker gave a brilliant performance, but I wasn't expecting such an entertaining film).  This is based on a novel, it is a fictionalized story based on historical truth.  There was never any young Scottish doctor in real life, but he acts as a metaphor/story device in order to tell a story.  I actually feel good about recommending it, because it has a lot to say about colonialism and the way the out side world has viewed the 'third world'.

I've been rereading some Georgette Heyer Regency Romances; it has always seemed sad to me that people confuse a really clever humorist writer with the boring and talentless Barbara Cartland (I've read two of the latter's books and believe me, she is easily one of the worst writers on the planet, and has never had an original thought).  Heyer's books are full of amazingly original plot lines with charming characters engaging in wonderful and frequently hilarious adventures and romance.    The books are silly and light, but the plots are complicated enough to stand up to rereading, and I have the wonderful comfort of knowing that they will bring me nothing but joy.

I really haven't had a lot to write about....  I got a hold of Buffy season 8's issue #6 today, the beginning of Brian K. Vaughan's Faith arc, and it seriously kicks ass.   Everyone should be reading this series!  And everyone should read Sugarshock online, and don't miss out on Spike: Shadow Puppets either....  Seriously, life is too short to skip having this kind of fun!

edited to add:  my membership shipment arrived from the Sci-fi club...So exciting!  I got:
Terry Pratchett's The Art of Discworld
Neil Gaiman's Stardust
David Brin's Startide Rising
Jsper Fforde's Thursday Next: First Among Sequels
BtVS Omnibus vol 1
AND the Buffy novel (about Faith)  Go Ask Malice/a slayer's diary by Robert Joseph Levy

Big fun!
