So I woke up and posted about yesterday before dawn, and then went back to sleep and took my time getting up.
edited to add: Thursday was my day to see a little of San Diego, so I had walked from the hotel to check out the shopping, only to find that it wasn't really very interesting. I was hoping for more off-beat interesting shops, like in a college town, but this area seems to be more run of the mill downtown or touristy places.
I did walk around the harbor a bit, which is lovely...with great huge ships/destroyers moving around the harbor...(kinda ominous).
I found Buffy's Omnibus vol 1, and the Spike: Shadowpuppets issue 2, but I missed out on the coolest Harry Potter give away (I think Warner Bros was giving away the cool looking shopping bag).
And I ran off for an early dinner at the Omni's seafood restaurant, which wasn't great but I learned that Jessica Alba was staying there....
I returned to get in line for a panel at 1pm to insure that I would have a good seat for Torchwood....
I got in with no trouble for what turned out to be Rasario Dawson promoting Occult Crimes Taskforce, along with the co-writer (I think he does most of the writing), the artist, and her Uncle Gus who is the publisher....
The art for the comic looks great, and I enjoyed the actress in Rent (she was also in Clerks2, Sin City, and Grind House).
Finally the Torchwood panel began, we were all very disappointed that we didn't have Russell T. Davies, John Barrowman, or any of the actors from the show. But we had:
Chris Chipinall - the Head writer for Torchwood
Noel Clark - who played the role of Mickey on Doctor Who but is a writer for Torchwood (he wrote episode #11: Combat)
Matt O'Toole - special effects supervisor, clearly talented but inarticulate.
Note: September 8th BBC America starts to run Torchwood series 1
I did take some notes, but ultimately nothing they had to say was all that interesting, except that Eva Myles (who plays Gwen on Torchwood) appeared in Doctor Who series one in Unquiet Undead as Gwendolyn, and although Chris Chipinall refused to confirm that there was a definite connection, he did say that speculation was warrented!
Tonight I went to a nice Japanese sushi place, not the best sushi, but the bento box I got was full of good food.
Now I'm ready to take a hot bath and sack out (I'm really tired!).
edited again to add about clothes at Comic Con: Thursday I wore my yellow 'Hero of Canton' t-shirt and I had a lot of people notice it and talk about Firefly/Serenity with me. It is easy to strike up conversations at the convention, and something like a good t-shirt is always a conversation starter....
That Jayne Cobb t-shirt is reasonably subtle, we'll see how I do Friday wearing my own shirt of collage drawings of the characters on Firefly!
More to come!
