Dorkage: House 4x12 Don't Ever Change

Feb 07, 2008 05:30

Good thing it's a public holiday tomorrow and all I have to do is go visiting and eat a lot of crap - if I can do that and still breathe, that is. I've been coughing non-stop for the last five hours, which is awful and kind of painful and really annoying. I THOUGHT I WAS ON THE WAY TO BEING FIXED ALREADY, WTF.

Anyway. Pardon the digression. HOUSE EPISODE FLAILAGE TIME. I can just imagine the amount of squee and flailage that must be occurring in the House/Wilson fandom right about now...

- Good episode, though not one of my favourites of the season, I don't think - certainly not as good as Frozen was, IMO. I loved it, don't get me wrong, and I think it's one of those eps that I'll fall in love with a little bit more each time I rewatch it. But first impressions were solid and not blow-me-away awesome.

- Many great things, chief of which being House - House himself! - changing, being willing to admit, through observing Roz and Amber and Wilson, that people can change. It's been a season of unusually positive small steps for House... towards rather than away from humanity, I suppose. In the sense that he hasn't been bogged down by the angst of Vogler or Stacy or Tritter, and is actually interacting with lots of new people (his 40 candidates for the fellowship positions), getting attached to some of them (Ridiculously Old Fraud ftw), and now learning to let go, even if it's just a little bit, of Wilson. The whole last scene was really perfectly done: Wilson pointing out that House himself must know and must already have taken the darkest interpretation of Wilson's new relationship with Amber and knowing he might thereby lose a friend - and yet, giving Wilson the go-ahead anyway. Not that Wilson needed that blessing - it was more that House had to learn to give it. And that was just... sweet. This evolution in House's character is so fascinating... and now I'm really upset that the writers' strike has derailed the season from what it might have been otherwise. I want to see how all this plays out, dammit, and how House readjusts to Wilson having someone else in his life, someone who really makes him happy.

- BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY THIS WOULD LEAD HIM STRAIGHT INTO CUDDY'S BED, YES? *ahem* Sorry. I meant to retain a little objectivity until the end, as usual. ;)

- Still in two minds about Wilson/Amber - the writers are doing all the right things in setting up that relationship, showing why Wilson digs her (House's horror that Wilson actually LIKES how in-your-face and in-control Amber must be) and why she digs him (that moment when she turns up in House's office and says that she has finally found in Wilson someone who both loves and respects her? - FANTASTIC moment, wonderfully acted by Anne Dudek and Hugh). I'm not 100% on board yet though. Will just wait and see where the writers bring us. IF WE EVER GET THE SHOW BACK, ASDJSKLDJASLDJALSDA.

- LOL, ALL THE HOUSE/WILSON STUFF. It was crazy textual in this episode: subtext? WhatEVAR. They blew (ha ha, I said 'blew'!) that right out of the water with House's jealousy and Wilson's pointed comments that House should have directed his flashing eyes in Wilson's direction before he hooked up with someone else. And House's "OMG, you're sleeping with me" mini-double-take was hilarious too. If I were a H/W fangirl, I'd probably be in seventh heaven right now - aside from the fact that Wilson is now with CTB, that is.

- I crazy-loved the H/C/W stuff - that is always just pure gold. House asking Cuddy to sleep with Wilson?!!? LOL, WIN. WIN WIN WIN. And, of course, this is clearly because Cuddy is so mindblowingly good in bed - and House would know, he's already tapped that, after all! - that House knew sending Cuddy in would completely distract Wilson from Amber forevermore. Then they can all shack up for kinky OT3 goodness, lol. In my perverted gutter brain, anyway. (Seriously, though - if we're led to believe that House and Cuddy have literally had just one night of hot sex, based on The Conversation from Top Secret, she must be incredibly awesome at sex for House to STILL be fantasising about her however many years after they did the deed.)

- Oh, and Cuddy approaching Wilson? EEEEE! SO CUTE. I love that she was clearly concerned about him, although she kept ignoring House the doomsday alarmist, and when she turned up with that 'lair and eggs' comment, Wilson was all, like, "EXCELLENT DISGUISE, HOUSE". ROFL. One of the best lines IN EVAR.

- And now Cuddy doesn't even have safe!Wilson to hang out with anymore... which means, OMG. She has to go with the dangerous choice. Also, if House no longer has Wilson to run to right away, his only other "friend" in PPTH is CUDDY. SO YES. YES. (OKAY, CLEARLY MY ATTEMPT TO BE OBJECTIVE IS NOT GOING TO WORK. ONWARD, SHIPPY-BIASED REVIEW.) What I meant to say was: I still think that the relationship and banter between House and Cuddy has just been even more charged (sexually) and yet also looser and more natural than before. Which leads me to my own pet thesis that the two of them are schtupping like bunnies behind the scenes... except there's the part of me that totally wants to see that first explosive kiss. (Sure to be fiery, involving lip-biting, shirt-ripping and lots of angry sex. Mmmm, yes.)

- WHY DID I DIGRESS SO FAR? THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS EP. BACK ON TOPIC WITH EPIC MOMENT:

- TOUCH. SHE TOUCHED HIS SHOULDER AND THEY WERE ALL CUTE AND GETTING INTO IT - HIS EYES, LOOK AT HIS EYES - AND THEN, BLOODY HELL, PAGER OF SATANIC POWERS GOES OFF. NOOOOO. IT'S LIKE THE BEE IN FIGHT THE FUTURE. WHY. I HATE BEES. KILL THE BEES. I NOW ALSO HATE PAGERS AND DYING PATIENTS, BECAUSE THEY INTERRUPT THE HOUSE/CUDDY EYE-SEXAGE. DAMN POTW. PLEASE TO HAVE YOUR ORGANS SHUTTING DOWN ONLY AFTER HOUSE AND CUDDY HAVE KISSED EACH OTHER INTO SUBMISSION OBLIVION.

- I think my flail is probably best encapsulated, as usual, in the >> flailage << over at
my_vicodin. Go forth and flail with me!

- But. To be serious for a moment - I do hope that if they continue this little-baby-steps-of-change-for-House arc that they're on, one which started towards the end of Season 3 and which I still feel was partially prompted by the loyalty of his friends i.e., Cuddy and Wilson throughout the Tritter arc, we'll see House opening up more to people. (Namely, Cuddy - she's the only option left now that Wilson is with Amber and the original ducklings are useless.)

- Speaking of original ducklings: CHASE. HAI. SO CUTE. I love how House kept saying they needed Chase, and Chase just walked off... until he came back with my favourite line of the episode, postulating House as God. Of course House would need Chase then. ;)

- NO CAMERON. TV GODS ARE SHINING UPON MY FANDOM TODAY.
(I am starting to think that having Chase means no Cameron and vice versa. Aside from Christmas ep, that seems to be the case: one or the other gets screentime. Hmmm.)

- I'm quite interested in the whole 13 bisexuality thing - although I think it would've been far more daring and interesting if they'd made her a flat-out lesbian. Because then the show wouldn't be all about how every female character on it develops the hots for House. Making 13 bi just leaves it open to the possibility of a House/13 hookup. Which is EWWWW. Anyway, I LOVED how Foreman so calmly just outed her - he was definitely so House-like at that point when she hesitated briefly and he totally called her on it. Even better?? House figured it out too! (I was quite horrified to think that House might have missed so much, as the writers seemed to keep trying to hint with Wilson and Amber allegedly having been together for four months - red herrings, obviously, since our boy doesn't miss a trick.)

- Surely I am not the only one whose first thought upon confirmation that 13 is bi = Cuddy/13 slash? I've read that one fic about it a long time ago, I think, and whoa, the possibilities. (Because, hello, who wouldn't crush on Cuddy especially if they were that way inclined already? I mean, so many of us are allegedly straight and yet just completely turn into puddles of flail whenever LE turns up onscreen.)

- Oh, and because I'm not completely made of shallow: good POTW storyline this episode. I think I'll need to watch it more to get into it - kept getting distracted by the House/Wilson stuff - but it was an interesting look at not pigeonholing people (13's bugbear) and being able to change for the sake of love and one's beliefs. I like how Taub started to suffer a little crisis of faith in his own determined rationality as he got to know Roz and Yonatan better and understand why their beliefs drive them to live and change their lives the way they do.

- Man. I'm done. When do we get new episode?!!?!? If ever... is it true that there's one last one in the can, waiting to be released??

And finally, to bed. It's almost 6.30am. Good thing I don't have to work, though I DO have to go out and be semi-sociable tomorrow and be nice to people. I get money in return for doing so, though. Guess things could be worse then. ;)
