Oh. Holy. God. HOUSE IS BACK. BACK BACK BACK. I don't just mean after, like, two weeks. I mean the show is BACK. The characters I love, the crazy way everything just fits, thematically, from POTW through to the interactions between House and Wilson, and Chase and Cameron, and OMG THE HOUSE/CUDDY ASDL;AJDJASJFSDHFSDFLSDAS.
I AM SO. OBSESSED. WITH HOUSE AND CUDDY IN THIS EPISODE. SO IMMENSELY OBSESSED.
-- OMIGOD I LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE HOW OBVIOUS THEY'RE MAKING HOUSE'S HUGE-ASSED ENORMOUS MUSHY CRUSH ON CUDDY. Seriously, guys. He wasn't going to go to the conference, and he changed her mind when he found out she was going. He decided to go to an 80s party (80s party!!) once he found out she was going - all ready to pack his legwarmers gentleman's breeches to boot!!! ♥ And he's just so... surprisingly, uncharacteristically honest to Wilson about how much he DOES want to make it work with Cuddy, if he can. Seriously I squealed almost as hard at this line as I did the 80s dance scene: "We've moved on a new phase. I tell Cuddy I've always been interested in her. ♥ ♥ ♥ She walks out of the room."
-- In vaguely chronological order: OFFICE SCENE OF WIN.
♥ HE FORGOT WHAT HE WAS GOING TO SAY BECAUSE HE GOT DISTRACTED BY PATTY AND SELMA. WHICH, BTW, ARE ALWAYS SMOKING.
♥ "I feel bad. I haven't named your testicles." <-- OMG THAT IS THE CUDDY!SASS I'VE BEEN MISSING ALL SEASON ASFLAHKFHALHFDALHFDADAS
♥ "You're not on the registration list." "I love that you checked."
-- FUCKING. HELL. DANCE SCENE. SLOW-DANCE SCENE. SLOW-DANCE SCENE.
♥ HOUSE DRESSING UP AS SOMEONE FROM THE 1880S, OMIGOD. I love love loooove that he went to the party on HIS terms, as he would. So adorable. "as long as you don't expect rhythm" AHAHAHA SO CUTE.
♥ DANCING. OKAY, SERIOUSLY DANCING. "as long as you don't expect rhythm." SLOW FUCKING DANCING. I FUCKING DIED. BECAUSE OMG THERE WAS SLOW DANCING. MY HEART ASLDASDLHAS. The flail-inducing impact is only slightly lessened by the a posteriori knowledge that Cuddy is with Lucas. (AUGH.)
♥ THAT ENTIRE, GORGEOUS, AMAZING EXCHANGE ABOUT WHERE/HOW THEY FIRST MET. ASLDHASDHLHSFLHLSDFHSD. I know there are arguments everywhere about timelines and whether this fits, and how this is a nice huge piece of the canon puzzle we've never received... and I LOVE IT. I love - fucking LOVE - it that House has this completely beautiful, romantic memory of his first meeting with Cuddy - that they danced the week they met. And that Cuddy has a completely different memory of how smart he was, how he sized her up immediately on her third day of school and knew her right away, better than a stranger should. (OMG THEY HAD THAT CANON REFERENCE TO 'PARTYPANTS'. I can't believe Cuddy packed her schedule but only after 11am so she could recover from hangovers. *weeps* I HEART CUDDY.) I love that they each remember tracking the other person down to Endocrinology and the dance. FUCK. How romantic is that!!!
♥ HOLY FUCK. When House admitted to her that he was going to call her - see her, and figure out where things would go from "there"... I love how that played out. How real, and truthful House was, about how much he wanted to follow up with her, to be with her... but then he got kicked out. AND CUDDY. OMG her reactions - "there were no expectations", and how she tried to push him away before he could say anything more and open up that whole minefield of the past... especially now that she's moved on with Lucas. The LOOK on Cuddy's face when he confessed why he never called her back: that he was ashamed, probably, that he'd disappoint her, not because he was an ass and a shitty, thoughtless GUY... god. So beautifully done.
-- I HAVE MISSED THIS SHIP SO EFFING HARDCORE.
-- And AND, House!! He followed up on what Wilson told him, to... take the first step and show Cuddy he's reliable and that he can be counted on. He went to babysit Rachel. OMIGOD FUCK. WHEN I HEARD RACHEL GURGLE IN THE ROOM BEHIND CUDDY, MY HEART LEGIT BROKE. AND THEN LUCAS TURNED UP AND I WANTED TO CRY. AND HIT LUCAS. AND HUG HOUSE. AND SHAKE CUDDY. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO. "That awkwardness would probably go away if I left." I remember thinking - BRILLIANT LINE. Even as my heart shattered a little bit at the look on Cuddy's face.
-- The OT3-Plus-Lucas scene was immensely painful, tense and full of fail. *weeps* When Lucas started TALKING, I was, like... O_O, as was Cuddy. Wilson. House. "I guess it's different because in your fantasy she was your saviour." Man, talk about laying all the issues out there on the table. MAJOR AWKWARDNESS. I LOVE that they did that though, and that they're not sweeping ANY of it under the carpet. Thank fuck. And god, Cuddy's FACE. Lisa is so unbelievably expressive. Who else could be completely silent and yet have that hint of "why didn't you clean up your act for me earlier, House?" written all over her face? Holy god I love this ship.
Wilson is so. so. SO. a House/Cuddy shipper.
♥ He can write all the RPF he wants, it's about the only time I'll condone RPF... ;)
♥ He is such an enabler, is Wilson. And I looove this exchange so much:
"If you want her, ask her out."
"My god, man, she's not some floozy in a bar, she's the floozy I work for... not radical steps, we happen to attend the same party, the chat happens to turn personal..."
"Like a frog in gradually boiling water."
"Exactly. She'll be RED AND DELICIOUS BEFORE SHE KNOWS IT."
"What could possibly go wrong?"
♥ And then Wilson went to talk to Cuddy!! I love love this moment too - how Cuddy conceded that House was actually "sweet", and that he knew better than to lie on what he'd told her. So heartbreaking - and true - that the guy she can count on every single day has never been House.
♥ "You can sit here running up my hotel bill or you can go get the woman of your dreams."
"I didn't know Angela Merkel was attending the conference." <-- ahahaha awesome line!!!
HOUSE/WILSON FRIENDSHIP OF INCREDIBLE AMOUNTS OF AWESOME.
♥ "Doctors are rarely indicted" - okay, this scene is, like, insanely, intensely beautiful. I love the colours of the sky, and the fact that House and Wilson are having this intense, truthful conversation on the dock.
♥ I LOVE LOVE LOVE how House is watching out for Wilson in this episode: it's so wonderfully done.
♥ THE DRUGGING SCENE IS MY FAVOURITE ASDKFHLFKHSDLFHGSDLFHLSDKFHLSDFHSDLFSD. Or it would be if I haven't spent the last ten minutes rewatching the dance scene over and over and OVER again. I love love LOVED it when they were having this really intense conversation, again, over $7 peanuts and DOPED GRAPE SODA in their hotel room. RSL: "I didn't mean... I didn't meeeean... [cue lots of awesome WHAT'S-GOING-ON??!faces] You drugged me. [beat] She's better off without you." IMMINENT FACEPLANT. LMAO LMAO. And then House: "Words can hurt, you know." EFF I LOVE THIS SHOW AND THESE TWO.
♥ And then House STOLE WILSON'S PANTS. EXCUSE THAT AMAZING. Can I just say, I know this is just ME, but OMG, it reminds me of this fic I wrote... something like a year ago. In which Cuddy, basically, steals House's pants.
AHAHAHA, YAY.♥ Also, House read Wilson's murder confession for him. EXCUSE THAT AMAZING TOO. ♥ I thought that was so powerfully done - the way House concluded the speech by staring straight at Wilson and just TELLING him things in the first person. "I was wrong when I wrote that. I've never given any less than my best. I am incapable of turning away from a responsibility. My friends... take advantage of that fact far too often." FUCKING OBSESSED, WHAT IS THIS INCREDIBLE ASHALFDHALSDHAS. *weeps*
♥ "I'm waiting for you to name something new to our relationship." EFF this episode is quotable. There are quotable quotes OUT THE WAZOO.
♥ Wilson thanking House at the end for saving him from going crazy and knowing he wasn't wrong - fantastic. "You're a good friend... and Cuddy should know that." Awww. "You should let her know I drugged you so you wouldn't confess to murder."
Chase/Cameron
♥ I occasionally still want to thwap Cameron (OH WAIT, YOU ARE HAVING AN AFFAIR - YOU'RE NOT? ERRR, SORRY. AGAIN.), but I STILL don't want this train-wreck to happen. I LIKED Chase and Cameron together. :( And
♥ I really liked the parallels here with Wilson and his euthanasia sub-sub-plot. How Wilson said that, in instances like this, you needed someone to tell you you're not wrong - and that's what Chase needs too, though obviously his killing of Dibala wasn't a mercy killing. He never wanted to unload on Cameron, both because he'd be dumping it on her for the rest of her life (as he says), but because he needs that absolution. Cameron moving away from him at the very end of the episode when he confessed - OUCH.
Random moments of adorable:
♥ House to Cameron: "isn't it annoying when everybody in the room knows something you don't?"
♥ Should House pack BALLY!?!
♥ LET'S HEADBANG. House's minor headbanging was adorable.
♥ Hugh Laurie's absolutely adorable few words in a PERFECT Australian accent when talking to Chase on the phone. ♥ "Is that the dad? I've got a good comeback." AHAHAHA.
♥ "Now Cameron, pick up the phone and give me a dramatic exit."
Thoughts on the POTW:
♥ LIKE I CARED.
♥ I did enjoy the dorkiness of the closet comic dorks. Kind of. "We keep a ten-foot rule." Not stalking unless you get close? AHAHAHA. That cuts uncomfortably close to RL...
♥ My favourite part of the POTW was that moment when Foreman reveals she was lying the entire time, including about loving her parents - ouch.
♥ OH AND. I love that POTW's dad was totes Frasier's sorta-love-interest in Season 2 of Frasier. THE MATCHMAKER, REMEMBER. Like, only one of the most epic episodes of Frasier eeeever. XD
I have actually watched this episode, like, three times tonight while typing this up. I love it. I've not felt so compelled to rewatch and rewatch and REWATCH in a very long time. LOVE LOVE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE. ♥ ♥ ♥
OMG teevee hiiiiiigh. XD
