Coming attractions

io9 made a list of the upcoming SFF movies that are not sequels/prequels/remakes and there's quite a lot of them actually. Some of them are only in the planning stages (and in case of Neuromancer and Snow Crash there's been rumours about filming them forever) but so was Ender's Game for years and it's actually filming now. So let's pretend they will all get made.

They divided them by source so I will comment like that too.

Book Adaptations: Most of the ones with a release date don't sound appealing and the fact that so many of them are being delayed makes it even worse. I know I want to see Ender's Game but that's about it. There are some interesting books in development but I will decide when they are actually being filmed (ones based on Neuromancer, Snow Crash, All You Need is Kill, the currently hyped novels Robopocalypse and Ready Player One).

Short Films Turned Full-Length: All the shorts look interesting (except celebrity one), especially the ones that noone knows when they will even start filming, but experience tells me they cannot all be District 9 so will see when the trailers and details. I decide when they actually come out. Until then I will hope that The Gift and Tomo will actually become movies. I can't be the only one missing true SF.

Animated Films: Of the ones already showing trailers Wreck-It Ralph, surprisingly, has the most interesting one. Epic and Frozen seem interesting too.

Horror Movies: I'm not big on horror movies - most things that should be scary seem boring and tedious to me - screaming and dyeing is not enough I need a story. But maybe Haunter.

Medium-to-Big-Budget Films: There are many interesting stuff here, including ones I'm already waiting for - Looper, Gravity, Elysium. I'm also thinking about seeing Jupiter Rising and Oblivion (despite Tom Cruise) and The Odd Life of Timothy Green description is kind of intriguing. There rest is somewhere between rather not and no way.

Smaller/Indie Projects: Ruby Sparks is creepy (and kind of rapey) even if there is a long tradition of writers dreaming about that the whole concept makes me feel disgusted. The rest sounds awesome. I'm already hyped for Robot and Frank and I've been waiting for the Knights of Badassdom to be released for a year now (still no release date). I just hope they will come to theatre near me.
