Weekend's Adventures

Saturday I loaded my bike into my car and drove over to Ianuk's house to do a trial run of biking to work. I had even bought a helmet! My first helmet ever. Setting off I took a less traffic heavy route, where a few cars passed me with plenty of room. About .8 miles out I noticed my front tire was wobbling. I stopped to make sure it was attached firmly, it was. Then I noticed it looked kind of bowed.

Kind of like this.

Deciding to err on the side of caution I opted to turn back. I was almost back to her house when my front tire exploded like a gunshot. Every dog in the neighborhood went ape shit. Sorry, neighbors!

Walking back was easy, I was almost there. I parked the bike on the front porch and went inside to grab some water. And that's when the other tire exploded. I wasn't even on the damn bike!

One friend thinks that the tires might've had dry rot? I have no idea how old the tires are. Looks like I'll be buying new tires. Sigh.

After that failure I grabbed Icka for breakfast at Joe's.  Fortified with tasty vittles we went to Grandma's Spinning Wheel so she could buy yarn for the fish hat I'm knitting for her.

At first she was adamant that it was going to be a goldfish. Them she fell into the trap of knitters and crocheters every where:  OMG! Look at all this awesome yarn!  Eventually she made her final selection.

I cast on that afternoon and it was going fine until I encountered W&T. Wtf is W&T? One Google and YouTube search later I had this figured out! Behold modern technology!

Sneak Peek!

Managed to work up my courage and go for a jog. my first training day for Couch 2 5k.

Not bad. I was breathing hard by the end. OK, it was actually closer to the start. Knees are feeling good. My thighs are achy with lactic acid burning though. More water, more stretching.

I also broke in my new-to-me wok by making Szechuan green bean and tofu stir fry. A bit of elbow grease (and some aluminum foil, salt, and oil) cleaned it up beautifully. Tofu is also ridiculously easy to cook. Cheese cloth is something I'm going to need in the future to help wring the excess moisture out of it though.

There will be much more stir frying in my future!

Sunday Icka and I went to 4th Ave to help with the Avenieda de Memoria. Six of us were manning the donation face painting booth.

Apparently the 6 of us in 3 hours did over 200 faces.

Exhausted and hungry we bugged out before the procession to get dinner and home. Still it was blast and we have a better feel for how to plan out next year.

And OMG, there was an adorably tall and handsome and dapperly dressed man with a beautiful Spanish accent that I got to paint and flirt with. In less than five minutes I had most of his life story. Fear my skills! However, I'm fairly certain that the smartly dressed woman with him was his girlfriend though. Still, it is nice to flirt.

So my quiet weekend of no plans? Yeah, didn't happen.
