I like swords

Well, I'm supposed to be doing homework, but my brain is fuzzy and I don't feel like answering questions about "inclusion & social justice", so I'm just going to update and probably go to bed, getting up manana to do this homework. So here goes...

Actually, I lied. It's less of an update and more of a rant about one of my favorite subjects.

I read an online comic called 8-bit Theatre, which takes the original...um...either Final Fantasy or D&D characters and puts them in a very goofy (and slightly disturbing) comic. There's a character named Fighter (guess what his class is?) who's considered the dumbest one in the group, since all his "stats" are in fighting. His only conversation piece is about swords and his love for them. His most common phrase, to start conversations, add input, end arguments, or just fill awkward silences, is "I like swords." The sad thing? I would probably get along great with Fighter.

I like swords! Tis true! Really, I think it's true of most guys. Seriously, 90% of males when given a chance would have their own sword. 95% at least play with swords when they're near one. It's our nature. Swords, guns, cars, beautiful women, food...sad as it is, these things are probably most guys favorite subjects. ANYWAY! Swords. There's just something satisfying about having a sword in your hand. Especially if it's your sword. Last summer I bought my first sword, a beautiful blue & gold Japanese katana. Granted, it serves no practical purpose, but it's just nice to have. I hold it, I play with it, I wave it around in mindless fashion while in my head I'm battling hordes of orcs/Sith/ninjas/barbarians/midgets. Ask any guy with a sword. He does it.

For a brief look inside my head, here's a tidbit. When I'm alone, walking or going to sleep or something, I choreograph fight scenes in my head. Full scale real life battles we're talking here. Everything from back-alley knife fights to Jedi lightsaber battles. I must admit, lightsabers are my favorite. Me in a Jedi cloak, holding a dual-ended lightsaber in each hand, whirling them suicidally yet skillfully around me as I fend off a small legion of Sith lords. Yeah yeah, call me a dork, it's what I do.

So I'm finally getting to the point of all this. I got my new sword today! I went to Eryn's house and her brother presented me with my new...quad-blade. It looks like a sweet black and silver quarterstaff. Then you press a button, pull out an end, and BAM! you've got a short spear in one hand and a short sword in the other. Then you do the same thing to the other end and WHAM! you've got two short swords and one dual-ended sword. FOUR BLADES IN ONE! WOOT! So Matthew armed himself with his new "Dark Knight broadsword" and his throwing knives, and I with my quad-blade, and we went out to the backyard and set up a large styrofoam target. We then proceeded to hurl throwing knives, short swords, spears, and broadswords at the target for almost an hour, interspersed with slow-motion D&D style sword battles. Dorky representation of males everywhere? Yup. But way fun? Oh heck yeah. It is a WICKED SWEET sword! Unfortunately, I can't bring it to campus, so it's still at Eryn's house. And I miss my new sword. But hopefully we're going there on Sunday, and I can play with it more. And I promised Steve I'd bring him, so between him, me and the Dixon boys, we should have quite a good time with our swords. FUN!!

Elforiendel is going to sleep and dream swordity dreams!
