Well, I didn't make it in time to post on the 4th, so here we are two days later. :) Independence Day is usually a pretty big deal for mio marito's family, since his mother's birthday is the next day. So, we have a combo BBQ/birthday party and then go to see the fireworks in Harrisburg. We hang out at the high school baseball diamond, where many families come to play ball, frisbee, set off small fireworks and sparklers, and just generally have a good time.
So, Bebe did pretty well with all the noises -- no crying, just generally interested in all the pretty lights. In fact, he was the calmest of all of us when one firework malfunctioned and shot straight at us. And by us, I mean Bebe and I. It actually hit the arm of my folding camp chair. Yikes! My brain sure didn't process it fast enough, because I didn't jump out of the chair until after it had passed us. Still, it had already fizzled out and the grass wasn't even burning behind us. Thank goodness! Everyone jumped up and ran over to see if we were okay. The firework hadn't been improperly set up or anything, just one of the five or six bursts went perpendicular instead of horizontal like it was supposed to.
At any rate, Bebe was calmer about the whole ordeal than mio marito or I. In fact, I was calmer than mio marito. Whew!
