Two things of note happened yesterday. (And yes, I realize I'm spamming, and I apologize)
1) We made oil paint from scratch. And this is the part of the artsy process that I've been missing all semester - the brain numbing, unanalytical, repetitive movement to get a finished product. To add to that - the paint just looks edible. Which was not so much of a problem while I made a ridiculously bright cadmium yellow, but was more so when Mariela made a dark burnt umber. You know what color burnt umber is? Chocolate color. And dark burnt umber looks like melted dark chocolate. And as we rubbed the oil-pigment mixture into frosted glass, it spread around in these beautiful circular patterns. A little like the mid-product of cleaning a wheel - circles within circles within circles. I wanted, desperately, to go looking for strawberries. And we mixed it to the point that we had to add some filler (it was too thin). The filler is ground up marble. And it looks exactly like powdered sugar. Mmmm. I have some on my palette right now. *Resists urge to go lick the undeniably toxic glass surface*
[This was right after lunch. I had no reason to be so incredibly hungry during this. Or now, actually.]
2) The swing club has taken to the air. Nicole did an awesome hip-hop/lindy piece for R&M, where she figured out a bunch of aerials and taught them to her partner; last night she taught them to us. It was great fun; we almost all died. I apparently am strong enough to lead the Around the World craziness; I tried it with Nicole and it nearly worked... I didn't have quite enough momentum, so we didn't go all the way around. But we got the fly-to-one-side, fly-to-the-other-side bit.
And... then we flipped over each others' heads, which is surprisingly easier than it sounds. (Coming from the girl who can't turn a cartwheel.) Momentum is a wonderful thing. But after a couple of near-concussions, I vetoed Glenn's teaching people to stand on other people's shoulders, and we went back to free dance.
[I still think that Glenn and Sloan need to meet each other. Glenn's going to kill one of us attempting the death-drop, otherwise. But they may band together and conquer the world, which would be hilarious, but also scary.]
