So tonight I told Garrett he had a bit of extra time for the shower. That he could take a medium shower, not a super fast one.
He took about a full hour. He had that much time so I didn't yell at him about it.
But, he was super sad to find out that he had lost his reading in bed time. Well, sorta. It was 7:53. I told him he had 5 mins and he could choose either me reading to him or reading in bed. He chose me reading to him.
He also was super extra sad to hear that I had planned some extra special Garrett time with him (something I do when the time between getting ready and heading to bed supports it). That I had some funny pictures to show him, and I was going to do some just-Garrett time. This made a super sad kid.
And I pointed out there are consequences. That he was told to take a medium shower and he took a super long one. So, he paid the price.
He was super sad.
I have many major cores of philosophy. One thing I never managed to tie together well even to this day is cause and effect. Of consequences. My children will have consequences in their lives. Not just will, do ... actively. Small ones, but well pointed out. Good and bad as well. There are good consequences running around too.
