I barely slept last night - thinking about "Shorty" being beaten to death with flashlights by two animals. I thought of my own dad, a WWII vet who returned from the horrors of the Pacific theater at the tender age of 22 (barely) to create a life and start a family - and all the other men in my neighborhood who did the same. They never spoke of what they went through.
I thought about how, when my dad, at the advanced age of 88, barely able to walk anymore, was hospitalized with a now failing heart - how almost the first thing they ask is, "Does he have a living will? Everyone should have a living will. They push for you to consider a living will - because when you're an old white guy it's time you move on.
Old white guys. Old white guy. Old white guy. WHERE have I heard that phrase before?
The founding fathers were "old white guys". The people who are supposedly racist are "old white guys". The people with all the money are "old white guys". The people who hate women are "old white guys". The people whose time is past are "old white guys".
Any wonder people like "Shorty" have targets on their backs?
And who put it there?
Race hustlers? Politicians? Comedians. Pundits? Women? Anarchists? Actors? Liberals? Occupiers? Progressives? Marxists? The entertainment industry? Socialists? Illegal aliens? Bureaucrats? Students? Teachers? The mentally disturbed?
You? Your friends? Have a vendetta yourself against "old white guys" - any of you? Are you more outraged by a rodeo clown wearing an Obama mask than a bunch of thug wannabes murdering an innocent 22 year-old Australian out jogging and in old man sitting in his car?
Are you part of the cultural rot infecting this nation? Well - are you?
To be honest, I've noticed a recent trend in my postings on twitter and other social media. The recent uptick in unhinged, angry, insulting, vitriolic, race-baiting, comments about my "appearance", references to my apparently now being an "old white guy". I guess that's what a beard and a mop sprinkled with more and more gray hairs will do for you. I've always laughed it off. It's now taken new relevance in my own life. You should read some of this stuff - just for posting a few facts.
Ironically, another "old white guy" just died this week. Elmore Leonard. One of the novels he's famous for is Get Shorty.
They "got Shorty".
