As a Witch, and a sometime word-smith, I try to be careful of the words I choose, and how I use them . From time to time I review the things I say, and perhaps choose a new windmill to tilt at

See, I have a slightly different word for the stuff I'm obligated to do to make ends meet--a job. work has a more positive connotation; it's something that takes effort, but which I want to do and which has a more constructive, progressive goal in mind. I "work towards" things. But I "go to a job".
Ah good!---*I* was 'hearing' too much of the other stuff, though.. ....I noticed a squirmy, uncomfortable, feeling in my tummy when I was talking about "doing the Work". I/fetch have too many bad associations, so its time *for me* to change my word use.
What I *really* need is a way to get more *play* back into the Trad----more mirth
*nods* Joy. Joy is a good thing. especially when our everyday lives can consume us, and we get so wrapped up in hating what we don't want to do that we forget to enjoy what we allow ourselves to do.
When we remember what it is that we *want* to be doing, and we look for ways to find a place in our lives for those things, then we gain that much more joy--and that makes room for even more. I only have a few hours to myself each evening, but I make them count because they're for joyful things.
The medium of culture is individual human minds. Most especially, language, as material culture can be carried in the objects through which it manifests, but language is in constant flux. Everyone participates in culture; by the same token, everyone changes it a little bit.
In other words, if you want the meaning of a word to change (or revert) then the way to accomplish that is not to abandon the word, but to use it the way *you* mean it.
I'm also fascinated by the idea that using the terminology "do the work" has led to a more serious tradition (that is putting words in your mouth, you only said there was less laughter). I found myself going through a year or more where my fetch was stifled under the weight of talker. Everything was so mentally focused for me, so in my brain. I needed balance, and quick! Can you talk a bit more about your experience with the departure from laughter?
--OH, and, remember--you *Are* Fetch/Body-- Rejoice! Incarnation is a Privilege! Enjoy it! Each Breath is 'holy penetration', the touch of cloth (or air, or water) on your skin, subtle masturbation...
Feri is not something you do for fifteen minutes, twice a day--It is a constant, ongoing game of awareness.
There is a Reason the Kala ritual has us doing "actual drinking", and, "actual pissing", and not some 'symbolic' event to the same ends.
All life is holy--- Really look at your hands, Admire how well they work, how Wonderful to have!---rub your hands on cloth sensuously.--Get out and walk, Garden--Sweat, smile--take baths, Cook something, *Knowing* that food is holy,-- brush your hair, feel your skin, always being touched-(-gravity pulling on you like love-) even our pains, part of the package
(I notice you said, 'my fetch', but NOT 'my talker'---they are Equally *YOU*, not something you have but what you Are)
