New Old Stuff

They had the first ever Improv Open Gym at the Brave New Workshop yesterday, and I think the organizers were a bit blown away. Something like 30 people showed up, including me. It was seriously, genuinely great. No ego, no cliquishness, no snobbery. Just thirty odd people doing improv for 90 minutes straight. I got to portray an autistic barista. An autistic barista sounds like something that would show up in every other improv set ever performed, but I don't think I've ever seen someone do an autistic barista. Interesting.

I needed something like this, something to remind me I'm still capable of doing this stuff, something to reintroduce me to the local improv world. I didn't get any offers to join any troupes, and I didn't expect any, but maybe something will gel in a couple of months.

Also, my parents dropped by to give me their old TV, which is quite a bit nicer than my old TV. It, like, actually has places to plug in cords and whatnot, and it can pick up all the local broadcast channels, not just the network affiliates. They were also kind enough to buy me a new TV stand. I kind of wish it was in a style other than Middle American faux wood, and I wish it was designed for a flat wall rather than a corner, but my parents mean well. Besides, it's clear my old TV stand wouldn't have accommodated this new monstrosity.

Dad also helped me take the old mattress and box spring that had been sitting in my basement for a couple of years, and truck them out to the curb. Mom made the offhand comment that mice might be nesting in them, which freaked me out a bit. No mice, but it's still nice to get that useless crap out of the house. I've got quite a bit of refuse I need to toss. Weeding out my house is probably going to be my next big project.
