Ashley is super-cute right now for a few reasons. I think the biggest reason is because her communication skills are improving every day, so you can ask her yes & no questions and (most of the time) she knows what your asking and can then tell you. This is of course conveyed in a cute fashion. When she says yes, it's more like either a ya-ya or a uh-ya - we're not sure. Whatever she's saying there, it's always followed by a curt, matter-of-fact quick nod of her head. She's even cute when she's being bad, though we don't let her know that of course. Well, ok maybe not 'cute' but it's certainly something we laugh about later. Yesterday, Em & Ash had just gotten home and I was sitting on the floor. Ashley comes walking towards me with her sippy cup raised in the air and I'm thinking "Why does she have her sippy cup raised above her?" I should have realized what she was going to do, and I could have stopped it sure, but I guess somewhere in my head the possability that she could bring this cup arcing down onto my forehead didn't occure to me. I promptly put her in the corner but then Em & I had a good laugh over it later as we were heading out for dinner.
This morning, Ashley walked into the bathroom and started playing with her potty seat. We had bought it about a month ago so she could get used to it being around, but within the past couple of weeks we've been starting to get her used to the concept of actually using it. She'd already used it to go #2 (which she had already started in her diaper) because it's easy to spot when she's doing that one, but it's harder to catch her at #1. Anways, she lifts the lid on her potty and we ask her, "Do you have to use the potty" at which she gave her curt nod and said "ya ya." I've tried this before, never with success because she'll sit there for a bit then get up and run around with her pants down. However, these things do take time and repeated attempts - so I took her diaper off and sat her on her potty. She sat there a bit, then stood up. Then she sat back down and next thing I hear is a tinkle tinkle sound. Emily was talking and I had to interupt her so she could hear it. We both did the happy dance for Ashley who grinned.
So, we're getting there - and a good thing to. Changer her diaper used to be easy but it's gotten a bit tougher because she wants to squirm and move her legs around and shove her feet into your face so you can go "EWwww! Stinky Feet!" which gets you a giggle.
I did teach her what sound a dragon makes though. She goes "Raaaaaaahhh" Heh, close enough.
