"I think it's well understood that even woven fabrics have the capacity to distort when applied to the wearing body."

I'm so glad you said this, because actually I'm not sure it *is* well understood. I know that a lot of corset-makers have found it out through experience. Fabrics stretch; they become more supple as they're warmed by the body wearing them, at least to an extent; they may distort (look at rump-sprung skirts and rump- and knee-sprung jeans.)
Yet, there are sewists who don't "get" that even woven fabrics have a degree of elasticity, even when it's undesirable, and that even the non-knit or non-stretch fabrics aren't absolutely "static."
My experience is doubtless an insufficient data base, but I'm always dismayed at many people's expectations, e.g., a single layer of interfacing, because it's used to add body to a part of a garment and/or add a crisp edge, can be used in place of more expensive *boning* and will give as good a result---and then they're angry and disappointed of course when that doesn't work, "....[because] it's INTERFACING!" Right; so what?

Anyway, thanks much for posting the links to this pattern maker's ongoing experiment/work. Very cool, very informative!
