Today is the first day of buck season. Around here that is a big deal - lots of hunters and lots of deer. School is closed. Candy and I were trying to figure out the safest place to walk and it seemed like the bike trail near Franklin would be the best. We ended up walking to the River Ridge Gate and sitting at the picnic table there for a while. We walked 5 miles in all. I was feeling it on the way back. Walking through the woods is easier - maybe it takes longer but it is easier on the feet. Walking on paved roads hurts my feet. A highlight: There was a flock of pigeons on the wire near the bridge and as we walked under them I could hear their wings as they took off. One, then another and another. Each bird made its taking off sound. They flew in big wide circles over us for a while. Flying for the fun of it. Then they all come to roost again on the same wire. It was like they had put on a show for us.

I came home, had lunch and went to bed. Got up around 4 and let the chickens out for their evening stroll. Put them to bed for the night at 5 and had my dinner. The latest quiche is green pepper, mushroom, onion and feta cheese. I had left over 3 bean salad and a granola bar for dessert. Dave is with his hunting buddies having dinner with them. He didn't get a buck but his 2 nephews did. He loves to hunt and will pass up small bucks so he can keep hunting for the big buck. I won't see much of him for a couple weeks.

Progress shot. Just now I darkened (oxidized) all these and then cleaned them up a little with steel wool. Next I'll pre-polish them, set the stones and then do a final polish.

Still tired. I feel extra tired. I might just let these go till tomorrow and read a bit before bed.
