You ever tried Jodi Picoult's books? Very good but perhaps an acquired taste...or the Thomas Covenant series...which takes a bit of getting into because the main protagonist is a *insert censored word here* but well worth looking at...some of the old classics are brilliant too...Jane Austen;s 'Persuasion', Elizabeth Gaskell's 'North and South', Charles Dickens 'Hard Times'...I read far too many books for my own good...

Haven't read Picoult, and I haven't tried Austen for years (but she's certainly brilliant).
I read Donaldson's first trilogy, and hated Covenant. Then I started the second one and decided I hated Donaldson... He can definitely write, just not quite well enough for me to put up with his plots...

Picoult is amazing...although her latest 'Nineteen Minutes' was a disappointment...I found Austen amazing...particularly as I'd been avoiding her for years on the basis that 'Claasics' are no good
