Smallville Magazine Quotes

I got the new Smallville magazine today, and of course my favorite part is reading the things that people had to say about Tom Welling.

Laura Vandervoort: "At the beginning, Tom [Welling] and I, as with any new people you meet, didn't quite know who the other person was, but after several episodes, I felt as comfortable making fun of him as he did with me."

"He gave me great advice during my last day on set with him. I was heading off to do a movie in Hawaii and very nervous. Like an older brother should, Tom gave me advice on how to stick up for myself on set, stay safe, and told me I'd be great. He loves to help others and was often giving me valuable advice about the industry, even about different ideas for my character, and the scenes we had. He's very intelligent, and I gladly took every piece of advice he gave me."

In reference to Apocalypse: "I have nothing but compliments for Tom as an actor, individual, and director," praises Vandervoort. "It seemed to me like he'd been directing for years. He seemed comfortable in that position, never took it for granted, and always seemed to have a unique vision for each scene. That episode seemed so relaxed as he'd joke around with the crew and the actors, and kept everyone cheerful, all the while getting the job done beautifully."

Alan Ritchson: He played a superhero in some commercial on Youtube and the interviewer asked him if he had any advice for Tom about putting on the Superman uniform- "Oh yeah, he hasn't done that yet, has he?" chuckles Ritchson. "I would say wear a cup, because that spandex is pretty tight. And don't stand in front of a fan with that cape because it might get sucked in!"

Marc McClure aka Dax-Ur: He compliments James Marsters and then says, "Tom Welling was very good too, and would make a great Superman for the big screen."

"I wrote the foreword for the Action Comics hardcover that Richard Donner wrote with Geoff Johns," McClure recalls. "I read the comic storyline and it rang so true with Donner's vision. It goes back to the believablitity of that world. I thought Tom just had that. I think he is very good for the part. First of all, his look and stature are believable. The way he listens is a great thing for that character, because Superman is from a different planet and constantly learning about human emotions. If Tom wanted to go to the big screen, he could do it. I remember back in the day, people asked me if I was worried about being typecast as Jimmy Olsen, and it was never really a problem. These days it is all about the audience and what Tom can bring them."

In the next issue, Phil Morris is interviewed and you know he loves Tom so hopefully there will be lots of quotes about him!

I love that Laura Vandervoort seems to really love and respect and look up to Tom like a big brother. It's just so nice to hear so many nice things said about him. And Marc McClure, considering he worked with Christopher Reeve- for him to say how Supermanly Tom is, is a huge compliment in my book.
