Kingdom Uni is coming up this week and the need for warm clothes is pressing.  Nick and I have nice warm wool tunics but no hoods or cloaks.  So this week I have been beavering away at getting things sorted.  We now have 2 hoods and I have almost completed a cloak for Nick, so hopefully we will be warm and toasty on the weekend!

We set off very early from Alaric and Nerissas (after staying the night),bend_gules  and her lord made for a full and chirpy car.  The drive down to the site was foggy and I was worried that the day would be spoiled by being cold and wet. Well yesterday was Viceroy (more later) and it did mean I got the opportunity to finish the garter and spurs work I was working on and hand it over to Duchness Nerissa for her to sew it on to Duke Alaric's gambeson.  I am very pleased with this piece of work it - it is one the best bits of work that I've ever done.

a very pleasant Saturday spent at the Medat meeting - lots of very interesting talks and presentations.  Ines a local shire member did a very interesting talk on the Musuem of London collections - I will admit to a certain smugness as we had seen some of the pieces during our visit earlier in the year.

An excellent beer and musuem last night.  We went to the Wellcome Insitute's exhibition of London Skeletons - I know it sounds a bit mordid but it really was faciniating.  It was 26 skeletons from all over London that have been exhumed as part of various digs.  The bones ranged from Roman to late 19th Century and each showed different signs of ( Read more... )

I have long thought medieval floor tiles are amazing things, beautiful and hard wearing but also transitory.  The amazing tiled floor at Cleeve Abbey is wonderful example and I am hoping to get back to see them again soon.

This weekend was the winchester pligrimage at the St Cross Hospital Winchester.  Last year this was my first ever event and it was amazing, so this year there was a lot to live up to.
