Dear Yule Writer!
This is my second yuletide and I'm so VERY excited for this year and want to be as encouraging as possible!! Thank you so much for contributing and I'm sure that I will LOVE my yuletide prize. PLEASE have fun! You are the BEST!
Things I love: Strong female characters! Men with self-destructive tendencies who never get what they really want. Self-sacrifice! Angst! Redemption! Twisty daddy issues are very me and I've also got a thing for over-protective father figures. I like romance and sexual tension. Platonic love is good too! I tend to stick pretty close to canon, as I've noted in each request.
Things I don't like: Sexual violence, cheaters, explicit sex, evil triumphing, machismo, violence against animals, bureaucracy
Lie To Me (gen or Cal/Gillian)
Cal Lightman is one of the modern-day Sherlock Holmes characters that just WORKS. I love the tension and love in Cal's relationships with both Gillian and with Emily. They are both essential to making him charismatic. He makes them a priority and deeply regrets endangering or hurting them. I also love him as the demanding and unpredictable teacher to Eli and Ria. I'm looking for a story that juxtaposes Cal's strengths (insightful, brilliant, brave, honest, dominant) and his weaknesses (inconsiderate, defensive, demanding, over-protective).
COMPLETELY OPTIONAL ideas:
- Case-fic
- Cal's painful backstory
- A lesson for Ria or Eli
- A lesson for Emily
- A fight between Cal and Emily
- A fight between Cal and Gillian
- A Cal/Gillian date
- ANYTHING, really!!
Pushing Daisies (Ned/Chuck):
This show is just so deliciously morbid and sexually repressed. I LOVE the theme of sex=death, so don't feel required to fix things up too much for Ned and Chuck (though if you have a great idea for how they might circumvent their predicament, please do explore it!). I love all the characters, love the parental figures, love the humor, love the technicolor morality and Ned's emotionally stunted way of loving everyone.
TRUELY OPTIONAL ideas:
- the next chapter for Chuck and her aunts
- Ned and Chuck love story continuation
- Ned learning to be in a relationship with something/someone living
- Ned getting therapy from an unlikely source
- anything about Olive being her own hero
- the back story for Olive
- Emerson and Olive solving crimes!
- ANYTHING, really!!
The Night Circus (Bailey/Poppy/Widget, Celia/Marco)
I haven't read a book I LOVED as much as The Night Circus in years. Such an unusual story! Beautifully crafted and imagined! The characters were so emotionally charged and interesting. There isn't one that I wouldn't love to hear more about, so I'll leave it to you to choose. If you're passionate about a character, then I am sure I will love the story! Don't be afraid to add your own details! It will make the story more vivid and let me see the circus through your eyes!
ALTOGETHER OPTIONAL ideas:
- Tara and Lainie backstory
- The reflections of Tsukiko
- Marco's new perspective on the circus following the book's conclusion
- Celia/Marco
- Exploring Bailey's career
- Bailey/Poppet/Widget.... just throwing it out there. I did feel a little sorry for Widget!
- ANYTHING, really!!
Nashville (Rayna!!)
I only watched Nashville because of
tamarind_rogue but have become pretty darn obsessed! Rayna is truly breathtaking, and so strong! I identify with her songs, love her backstory, love her as a mother, love her as a musician, love her insecurities, love her honesty, love her temper, love her courage, love her intelligence. She can be very petty, but is also very generous. Scarlett and Juliette are both fabulously angsty characters, with big voices and bigger dreams! Feel free to incorporate them!
EXTREMELY OPTIONAL ideas:
- Pour Me Something Stronger songfic
- Rayna mentoring Juliette
- Rayna mentoring Scarlett
- Complicated Rayna/Liam
- Complicated Rayna/Deacon
- Rayna addressing some painful truths with Maddie
- ANYTHING, really!!
Jericho: (Jake/Heather, Stanley/Mimi )
Oh, the apocalypse after my own heart! I am a total apocalypse junkie, but particularly like Jericho because of my hero Jake and his self-esteem issues. No matter how many times he saves the town, he never seems to chase down those ghosts of his! And really, you really don't have to be gentle with him! Whumping is totally allowed. I prefer Jake with Heather --or having regrets about Heather--- to him with Emily. It can be as complicated as you like, though! Love Stanley and Mimi too!
TOTALLY OPTIONAL ideas:
- Jake saves the day! again!
- Mimi comes through for Stanley
- Jake screws up bigtime!
- Jake is a protective big brother
- Jake is a bad son
- Jake and Stanley have a disagreement and must resolve their differences
- ANYTHING, really!!
A very sincere thank you for taking the time to write!
HAPPY YULE!
