And "made do" meant that she practiced, and she practiced hard. For the past two days, she'd only let up her thorough investigation of the karaoke machine, what it contained, and how she could twist that to suit her voice long enough to eat and sleep, and sometimes she'd had to be prompted. Other times, she'd actually stumbled and almost collapsed on the stage.
No mistaking it: in her past life, she'd been a diva. But she'd been a genuinely hard-working one...or at least, she was willing to be now. It was hard to tell where these things came from.
By the night itself, Goodbye had settled on which songs she wanted and what alterations she'd make to make them hers. She needed the ( ... )

slathered on triumphantly with paint. She had, in fact, found the sparkling glitter for sale. The poster-board itself had to be salvaged, but it was cheaper that way! Besides, it was well worth it just to support her idol -- or, her sister, who might as well be her idol (and friendly competition? now wasn't the time to think of that) and for some reason this setting was all too familiar, but for once in the best of ways. Like she had been near that very stage, watching spellbound and unable to help singing along. Had she really been up there before as well, exactly the way she was in the dream? Would she do it again?

She fell backwards with a resounding yelp, and it was likely the only way she would have noticed the quiet person taking care of damages close by. Who probably looked much better right-side-up. Flushed with embarrassment, Aimo lifted herself into a sitting position. There was something about those feminine looks that struck a chord.

It took a second for him to realize that maybe, perhaps, he should check on her health. It would be terrible publicity for someone to get injured on the job so early, especially a young girl people were prone to be sympathetic towards. As much as Aurora didn't understand the biased towards favoring younger members of society, he couldn't deny it existed.
"Yes, her pitch and rhythm are quite accurate." Aurora responded offhandedly as he walked over to the fallen girl, mistakenly thinking her compliment was directed at the singer. He wondered how correct it was as he caught the slight pause, glancing up only briefly at the stage. "Are you injured?"

"Yes, this piece is still usable. Thank you." It was merely said for the sake of politeness, almost dismissive as he turned on his heels to finish his task and end his time with the girl.
That is, until the singer decided to interfere.
"You're here to cheer me on, Aimo. Not do dirty work. That's what he's for. Isn't it?""We are all present to assist with rebuilding Smoke's bar." He said pointedly, making direct eye contact with Goodbye. He immediately disliked how she held herself, as if she were somehow above them and free from the burdens they all ( ... )

He was so glad that Alchemy had fixed that jukebox.
From across the room as he mingled around, Smoke waved at her, then gave her a thumbs-up. He was grinning quite happily.
