Thanksgiving report

Nov 27, 2009 13:15

Thanksgiving went fairly well, all in all.

I slept in 'til noon and consequently had lunch for breakfast, which was basically crackers and cheese. Then I went upstairs for a bit, and when I came back down I discovered someone else had already set the table. I joined family in watching some of a dog show, followed by a documentary biography about Cary Grant.

Then we ate. This year's menu was turkey, stuffing, gravy, two kinds of cranberry sauce (the one with berries, and the jelly roll), scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, creamed onions, and a salad made of arugula, craisins, and summer squash. (The salad replaced the old carrot-raisin-apple salad, which has been retired since I cannot eat apples, and the salad does not taste right without them.) Also, the olives and marinated mushrooms seem to have become a permanent fixture as little garnish-style side dishes. Odd.

Because I do not cook at family events, I do most of the dish-clearing and putting away of leftovers. I feel this is a fair trade, since nobody else really likes putting away leftovers, but I find it much less annoying than cooking. *grin*

Today Susan and I had breakfast at the Morristown Friendly's, after which we hung out for a little, and then I followed her back to Morristown to her part-time job at Glassworks Studio, which looks like a very cool place. I will probably be in NJ again over Christmas, so if they are open then, and I have some more money available, I would like to try making some earrings, or maybe a plate.

And now it is time for lunch, after which I will pack the last of my laundry and head back up to Ithaca. This time, I will take I-80 instead of back roads, because the Delaware Water Gap should not be obscenely backed up the way it gets the day before Thanksgiving. *grin*
