I keep trying

Apparently, this is going to be a banner week for me...at least in terms of number of jobs for which I submit applications. I've already put in eight applications, and it's only Monday night. I'd say go me, but I'm not actually sure it's a good thing. While, yes, this is a record number for one week for me, the fact that I put in so many at once is a good indicator of how much I fail at job hunting. I know the hoping to get a job through sheer number of applications is not necessarily the best approach. It's kinda the only one I have. My network, such as it is, is pretty much tapped out, and I've already sent cold resumes to most of the companies in the area. Okay, I've only posted cold resumes to the companies' recruiting website and not mailed out paper ones, but I haven't yet decided if companies actually want paper ones these days. I know, couldn't hurt; I'll get around to it one of these days.

Anyway, a couple of the the positions I applied for this week sound pretty cool, and even a little different for me. Maybe there's hope. Maybe I'll make it through sheer persistence. Maybe.

In other news, Workout Buddy and I are keeping up our gym schedule. We go six days a week with a rotation of half hour cardio with arm strength training, half hour cardio with leg strength training, and full hour (or more) days. Occasionally, we throw a day of water aerobics in just for fun. Haven't lost any weight yet, but my ass feels smaller, which counts for a lot more in my book. We've added to our dedication by tracking our workouts and eating habits at Spark People. I'm not generally a fan of the whole counting calories thing because I think it's obsessive and doesn't make for a "healthy relationship" with food. Being on the computer though makes it a little less obsessive since I don't have to do the counting myself, and it's kinda like a game. Also, I don't track throughout the day. I just enter stuff at the end of the day (or a day or two later) and if I went over my recommended calories / fat / carbs for the day, whatever. Of course, there's no guarantee I'll stick to the journaling either. Right now it's all shiny and fun to see how stuff balances out, but I may get bored.

Today, after exercising, Workout Buddy and I went yarn shopping (she's also one of my knitting buddies). I'm doing another Pay It Forward handmade gift exchange (all of my slots are technically full, but if anyone wants a little handmade thing just let me know), as is Workout Buddy, and she needed to pick up some yarn for the things she's making. Amazingly, I bought absolutely no yarn. I was in three different yarn stores and bought no yarn. Weird, eh? Of course, I did by a book. In all fairness, it fits with my rules for buying books because I've been trying to find it for a while (well, a few months anyway). It's the Crochet So Fine book that has the pattern for the gorgeous Dragonfly Shawl I want to make. Have I mentioned that Plant Slut taught me how to crochet last spring? Yeah, I can crochet now, too. More reasons to buy and play with yarn. Heehee.

Okay, I should really head off to bed. Sister is in Japan all week, so I'm playing Munchkin Taxi service for Little Girl.
