As predicted, words were hard to come by last week in the midst of our Epic Move. So here's how I did on BIRTHRIGHT:

Monday 6/28: 1359 words
Thursday 7/1: 526
Friday 7/2: 1600

So that's only 3485, and I'm aiming for 5000 a week. However, on Tuesday 6/29 I did write around 2000 words on my weekly Star Trek Re-watch post on "The Ultimate Computer", ( Read more... )

Sunday marks the beginning of this summer's Clarion West Writing Workshop, and writers are once again invited to write in parallel with students for the next six weeks to raise funds for the workshop. I was working out of a different office this morning, so I had to go to a Starbucks instead of my usual not-Starbucks coffee shop. So sorry for the recent silence. I meant to blog sooner, but last week things went pear-shaped at work. Long story short: our server failed, the backup server hadn't been updated in eight months, and we lost pretty much all our media. (Not my fault, at least.) Since Twitter saw fit to swallow one of my text updates the other night, I remembered that I have a LiveJournal for sharing writing news and stuff, and I should probably use it more often. I have just typed "THE END" on the incredibly rough "zero draft" of WHO WE USED TO BE.

I began writing this novel almost exactly four months ago. This version came in at just under 100,000 words, but I figure I'll be cutting around 20,000 words eventually. Right now it also consists of 42 chapters, an auspicious number for geeks; I totally didn't ( Read more... )
