i fell asleep tonight about 9:30. i was awakened to find myself alone in bed during a serious thunderstorm, with rain that is flooding areas of our backyard. it's nearing the end of monsoon season. i instantly thought i had been asleep for hours and was shocked to learn when i checked my bedside clock that it was barely 11:30.
now i am wide awake, and the storm continues to rage over our part of north Phoenix. the thunder sounds more distant than before, but still violent enough to set off nearby car alarms. its magnificently scary. i never dealt with storms like these back in the Bay Area. its been raining heavily for over an hour, with high winds and all the thunder and lightning you can eat. i'm just waiting for the power to go out at this point. i'm surprised it hasn't yet. i've got the bedroom blinds open, and i'm tracking the lightning. the sky is split by lighting once every 6 seconds.
