Answer to the wabi-sabi mystery picture.

In the atrium secret garden are two big old thick mirrors adhered to the cement wall. They have been there for about 15 or so years and the silver on the back of them was perfect when we put them up. Recently I was out there when the light was perfect for showing off some beautiful and unusual areas on the mirrors that are desilvering.

Mirrors will desilver if they are exposed to moisture, which results in oxidation of the silver backing. Since these are outside, they get the rain and hose spray every several days. We put them up with silicone, but they were never sealed to be water-tight around the edges (remember, this is the garden of decadent decay) so they got lots of water front and back. I love the desilvering effects.

P.S. If I had played this game, my guesses would have been slices of agates or geodes. I collect agate slices and they look very much like them.
