Lent: This Pain Isn't Normal

So, Lent is hard.

I had this great post about Lent planned. I was going to talk about the cognitive patterns of self-restraint, tie them to patterns of motivation, and then sneak a little godtalk in.

Instead, I'm going to talk about physical pain.

Two weeks ago, I caught a fly ball with my bare hand. My hand bruised up. Worst bruise I have ever had. I iced it, took some Advil, stayed hydrated and kept going. But the pain won't leave. It's not broken, it's just a very deep bruise.

This past week, I started noticing other problems with my hand. It was getting tingly and achy all the time. I thought I was going to have to go to a doctor, but then I realized, it was both hands. Both were tingly, both were achy, and both hurt. Then my shoulders and elbows joined in. Today, my legs and neck started.

The first rule of Lent is that you've got to do what works for you. And I thought that I had been doing well with my diet; plenty of whole grains (grechka, farro), legumes, nuts, and leafy greens. But it doesn't feel right, And it's the only thing I've changed.

First, I'm going to get some soy milk and see how that treats me. I've been missing milk in my oatmeal anyway. If that doesn't work - yogurt. I'm Greek after all. Not eating yogurt is the eighth deadly sin, right after not eating olives and bread. Hmmm . . . olives, bread, and yogurt. Sounds like a good start.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything similar in switching diets?
