Building Term

Hey, greta_k, maybe you can help with this one!

A pastor from a local church called to ask what the word is for the "canopy" that cars drive under to let people out in front of a building. He didn't say why he wanted to know. A protico is for foot traffic. A porte-cochere is for car (or, in times past, carriage) access.

I thought a portico was a fancy porch. I wasn't too far off. I'm curious about why he asked. He turned me over to someone else after the initial question. Maybe they are adding on to the church?
