I realize I complain about my co-workers a fair amount. They’re late for work, they complain about their significant others too much, etc, etc…
But here’s why I also love them:
One of the lawyers comes to me and asks how to do something. I give him his two options. He doesn’t like either one. He goes and asks Shellie. She tells him the same thing, and offers a third, even less appealing, option. He still doesn’t like it, and I overhear him complaining. I walk over and ask him why he’s asking us for help and then dismissing our suggestions. He tells us that we’re both wrong, that the options we’re suggesting aren’t the way it’s done. Shellie snatches the file from him and leads him down the hall to where two of the senior attorneys are having a meeting. She interrupts and tells him to present the same question, then asks what they suggest. In a typical lawyer long-winded fashion, they suggest the same things we’ve already offered. Shellie thrusts the file back at the attorney and tells him, “Next time, don’t come to us if you’re not going to bother listening to what we have to say.” She then marches out, leaving him to stand there while his bosses laugh at him and make “you’re in so much trouble” noises.
Yep, that’s it right there.
