...I was awoken by the most disturbing noise to reach my ears for some time. What was the cause, I do not know, but it seemed to rise from the very depths of the city. Perhaps this has happened before, prior to my being brought here? Whatever it was, it seems to have passed, leaving much unease in its wake. No one has been harmed, I hope.

I believe the term Fran would use is 'the fates jest'. The reassurance that Larsa would maintain order in Ivalice is now gone since he, too, has been brought here.
