two weeks down, three to go

in two weeks we have learned roughly half of a 2 hour show. since i'm playing drumset, i don't march drill on the charts that have it; however, for the tunes that i am on stage i am running and jumping all over the place. the last two days, we've been learning the chart that is most physically demanding for me. it's not about how hard i hit the bass drum, it's about how much air i can get before i land and hit it. and it's all improv'd stuff; they give us a very loose direction and a little choreography, and then we make it our own. very cool. i'm about ready to pass out.

the people here are really really great. i'm enjoying every minute of down time. lance and i obviously get along well, but we've got lots of cool people to talk to and be stupid with, which is what we need in between these high-intensity rehearsals. we've done everything at night from going to party in bloomington (a college town not nearly as cool as athens, but still a college town), chillin in a hotel room with our conductor drinking chai tea and listening to eric whittacre choral acappella choral music, going to the local rural indiana bar and listening to hicks sing karaoke badly ( i thought there would be less hicks when i left the south, but you can't escape them, they're everywhere......EVERYWHERE!), oh! and lance and i sing pop songs that we both know the words to every chance we get to keep ourselves and others entertained(i think there are members of the cast who refer to us collectively as "the boyband dudes").

really looking forward to a relaxing day off tomorrow. next week is more learning music and a bit less jumping and spinning.
