sleep, the obsession of early parenting

Last night Mary-Alice slept through the night (according to the semi-medical definition, which is to sleep from midnight to 5am). Specifically she slept from just after 11pm until about 5:45am. Unfortunately I didn't sleep all that time because I had too much milk and it hurt.

Ten weeks old and sleeping through the night! Unswaddled! Falling asleep in her crib without nursing or rocking! Where did this kid come from???

I'm not counting on this to continue though. We'll see how it is during teething. She still has one sleeping "flaw": she rarely naps while Pippa is napping. Honestly I'd rather she woke up one time more during the night in exchange for a daily mutual nap. Too bad there's nothing I can do to make that trade.

Today we're going to a local apple festival with my SIL. I'm excited about it, because you can pay to taste all kind of rare and heirloom apples, plus the admission to the festival also includes admission to the garden and canopy walk (festival ticket: $4; usual garden ticket: $20!). I'm thinking about buying a bunch of apples to make and can applesauce. I've canned applesauce before so I know I can do it.

The only thing I'm a bit apprehensive about is that we're going to the festival in the afternoon, so Pippa won't have a chance to nap. She's skipped or partially skipped her nap a few days this week, but she's always overwrought when she does that. We'll see how it goes. At least my SIL is driving so if we need to leave we can get home quickly.

it's a jolly holiday with mary-alice
