apples to pumpkins

The apple festival was a lot of fun, but quite cold, and we had a minor disappointment in that the apple tasting tent was already sold out when we got there. However, they had people doing free simple face painting, so Pippa and my SIL got matching cherries on their cheeks, which was very cute. I also bought six pounds of Bramleys, which are apparently a very common apple in Britain but rare in North America. They are meant for cooking. I will either turn them all into applesauce and can it, or half into applesauce (which probably won't need to be canned because we'll eat it all before the refrigerator life expires) and half into a pie. Probably just the applesauce. Maybe not even try to can it because if there is applesauce in the fridge we will eat a lot and I will make applesauce chicken for dinner. I love homemade applesauce.

Pippa did ok mood wise until we got home around 6, but was super tired, and fell asleep in her room. We woke her up at 7:30 to give her a little turkey noodle soup and that was awful. She was so groggy and uncoordinated, and cried constantly, but we didn't think she would make it overnight without eating and she said she was hungry, but wouldn't eat her soup. Finally I guessed that maybe eating the soup was just too physically challenging at her level of exhaustion, so I fed her two granola bars and packed her off to bed. Yes, two granola bars is not the healthiest meal ever, but any port in a storm.

This week is going to be really crazy. We have four medical appointments scheduled for Pippa, Mary-Alice, and me, and maybe another one because I just got an email from my PCP saying she'll call tomorrow to discuss the bleeding situation. Plus swimming starts this week for Pippa, and a Halloween pumpkin carving party on Friday evening. At least we only have LB two days this week. His stepmother texted me to ask if we could sit him Thursday night, but I had to turn her down, because Pippa sees the allergist that afternoon, and Mary-Alice gets her vaccines in the early evening. I don't know how a toddler deals with an allergist (I imagine there'll be some grumpy from skin pricks? it also may wreck her nap), but I know how 2 month olds act after vaccines, and I don't want to add a third kid into that mix if I don't have to.

The allergist is because Pippa has broken out into hives a few times after eating fresh tomatoes, and every time she breaks out they seem to be worse (last time they were all over her face and chest). But it seems like it's not every type of tomato, and I'm not even totally sure it's the tomato (tomato is a common factor in every case, but it's always in the context of a meal).
