Shortbus
I think I need to rethink my aversion to being spoiled regarding movies. I had heard that Shortbus was a good movie, but I hadn't bothered to find out anything more about it. Last night I discovered that it is not, as I had assumed based on the name, a sweet coming-of-age/roadtrip movie about special needs kids. Fifteen minutes into the film I was like, "That's a lot of sex, but where are the retarded kids?"
I asked rfunk to pause the movie so I could read the movie summary, and switch gears.
Not retarded kids. Sex. And lots of it. Huh. Okay.
Once I got into the proper frame of mind, I really enjoyed the movie. It's intense, but really funny. Visually the first half-hour reminded me somewhat of Requiem For A Dream, which had me worried. But thankfully it didn't go anywhere near as dark as that film.
So, yeah. I liked Shortbus. I also need to start making more of an effort to find out something about movies I watch, other than the number of stars they are rated.
