Long lines to vote = Poll Tax

Nov 04, 2008 14:44

Rachel Maddow notes that the long lines at polling places are the equivalent of a poll tax. They penalize people who do not have the ability to take time off work to vote, or don't have bosses who allow flexibility in their schedules to come in late or leave work early. Time is money, and long hours spent in line waiting to vote is a loss in the time you could have been working. What is your time worth? That's what you are paying in a poll tax.
