QL pain

Oct 24, 2008 14:04

I managed to irritate my quadratus lumborum muscle (lower back/sacrum area) yesterday, and it was in spasm when I woke up this morning. I had to sit with a heating pad for an hour or so before it was loose enough so I could walk upright. I got to work a couple of hours late. I suspect the major problem was standing around in flats instead of switching immediately into my New Balance shoes right after I danced yesterday. But then I forgot to warm up before dancing, so that might have something to do with it, too. I totally know better...both about warming up and not standing in flats on a concrete floor.

I still have some pain, but I think I'll be able to massage/heat/ice it away in a day or two.

Having ql irritation after just a few hours of walking essentially barefoot just goes to highlight how much I like my new orthotics. I keep them in the New Balance shoes, which I wear all the time now. I've had them for three weeks, and my feet are adjusting nicely. I still feel a little tenderness in the heel of my left foot after I have worn them a full day, but it goes away with a little massage and stretching. I have even been able to exercise on the elliptical again, for as much as 40 minutes at a time. That's wonderful! Such a relief to be able to exercise again.

I have had a plant grow light shining over my desk at work for the past four days, and it is really helping my mood. I do think I want to get a couple more for light in the evenings, though. The fluorescent lighting in the kitchen is too harsh without the glow of sunset to soften it.
