I've finally figured out how to post images, so I thought I'd give you a couple.
This is the tattoo that covers the upper portion of my back. The picture was taken at my brother's wedding last summer.
The style of the art is Celtic knotwork. I saw the tattoo in a magazine and altered it a bit. I changed the antlers from those of a stag to a reindeer, and extended the lines at the ends so that they curl up over my shoulder.
In the mythology of the Saami or Lapp people, the native people of Finland and Norway, the reindeer gave itself so that the world could be made of its body. It was this giving sacrifice of love and surrender that I wanted to bring into my life with the tattoo. The reindeer maintains a similar importance to the Saami as the buffalo does to the Native Americans.
Me as seen from the front, earlier the same day.
