Home inspections

The inspections yesterday went well, I thought. Except that both the home inspector and the well/septic inspector were late. I knew they would get lost. MapQuest puts the property as south of I-70. I told the companies it was north of I-70, but did the inspectors listen? NO! Stupid MapQuest.

Anyway the home inspector said it was in remarkable shape for its age. The wiring is good, the pipes are PVC and copper, no lead. No signs of termites. No cracks or water damage visible on the walls or ceiling, so the house isn't about to fall down and no leaks. Flushing the toilet does not cause a drop in water pressure. The drains to run a bit slow, but not nearly as slowly as where I'm currently residing. It was fun poking into the nooks and crannies. There's only one real thing I'm concerned about. In the basement there have been placed two large jacks to help support the house. That's okay, but the cinder blocks they are resting on have cracked. I'm not sure how much of a problem that is. I'll wait and see what the inspector's report says. I won't know about the well/septic results until today or Monday.

I didn't think to take my measuring wheel, but I paced the house to get a rough estimate on the square footage. Each floor is 37' X 30', for a total square footage of 2220 square feet. Not bad!

Tomorrow morning I'm off to Cincinnati to pay a visit to the incomparable _lillassea_ and _boy_. There will be Donnie Darko and Watership Down DVD viewing, and on Sunday we might go to an Asian Festival. I'll bring down my saris and see if I can convince _lillassea_ to dress Indian with me. It should be a very fun weekend.
