It’s supposed to be Kim versus Jung. Not Kim loves Jung.
- iii A year later, Jaejoong visits Seoul for his winter holidays, but only upon Yoochun’s constant pleading and begging to come visit. When he sees Yoochun holding a welcome home, hotshot at the arrivals, he smiles widely.
“I hope you know that it’s because you’re so pretty, I’m visiting you.” Jaejoong says, pretending to be snobbish. “I had no plans of coming back here.”
Yoochun grins, folding his banner and throwing his arms around his best friend. “Shut up, you missed me.”
“Maybe.”
Jaejoong wraps his arms tightly around Yoochun and buries his nose into his best friend’s shoulder. Truth be told, he had missed Seoul, it was home. London was far too cold for him, be it the place or the people. He missed his native homeland, his language, his food. Though, Yuri had made sure Jaejoong felt welcomed in London and had gotten him into a good private school, it still was not Seoul.
Jaejoong had to grudgingly admit that he wasn’t as adaptable to new places as Yuri was and he was envious of that. Yuri had been all over the place and she had friends all over the world, she was a social butterfly and Jaejoong, on the other hand, was a homebody. He didn’t like change as much as he claimed he did.
“How are you?!” He asks Yoochun, pulling back and smiling widely and genuinely. “How’s school? Are you thinking of doing your university in London? You should. We could live together.”
“Wow.” Yoochun chuckles. “It’s been a year and you still have no friends there, do you?”
“I have a few.”
“Hanbyul and Yuri’s boyfriend don’t count.”
“Shut up.” Jaejoong says, shoving Yoochun with his elbow. “But, seriously, though, have you thought about it?”
“What? University in London? No, not really. I am not sure what I want to do for university.”
“Well, no hurry. We can both take a year off and go backpacking. I have researched on it and we can take the Euro train or we could go to India - that would be exotic. Or-“
“Will you calm down? You haven’t even set your foot right and you already want to take off. Do you really hate Seoul?”
Jaejoong clears his throat and avoids Yoochun’s question. It was difficult for the seventeen year old to admit that even though he missed Seoul with all his heart and body, he hated to think about coming back to the place that took his parents away from him. And coming back to the place that also reminded him of the people who took his parents away from him.
“I don’t hate Seoul. I’m just saying, the both of us could be jetsetters. We could conquer the world, you and I.”
“You really need to learn how make friends.” Yoochun chuckles, leading Jaejoong to where his car was parked.

“How are you holding up though?” Yoochun asks, once the two are back in Yoochun’s place and Jaejoong has greeted Yoochun’s parents and had dinner. “Are you okay?”
“Yeah, it was difficult at first. But it’s alright, it’s not like I have a lot to do, you know? I go to school, I come back home, maybe visit the park for a walk or something. Yuri’s boyfriend hangs out with from time to time.”
“Yeah? What does he do?”
“He’s a musician. Talented guy but he has a funny accent.”
“Bet thinks you have a funny accent too.” Yoochun laughs.
Jaejoong throws a pillow at his face and leans against the headboard. “What about you? Do you still get bullied by Changmin?” he asks, fidgeting with the ring on his finger.
“Um…” Yoochun hesitates.
“No. Shut up. Oh my God, no way!” Jaejoong laughs and sits up. “You’re dating him? Are you for real?”
“Shut up!” Yoochun blushes, looking away from Jaejoong.
“I thought you hated him?”
“I never hated him! I mean, yes he was annoying but I always thought he was good looking and - “
“Shut up. How long have you guys been dating?”
“Around four months now. He’s not that bad actually. He’s a good cook, he’ll surprise you.”
Jaejoong laughs and shakes his head at his best friend. Yoochun shrugs and the both of them quieten down. The big question hanging in the air like thick smoke.
“So - “Jaejoong breaks through the silence, deciding to cut through the smoke. “How’s uh - how’s Yunho?”
Yoochun takes a deep breath and smiles at Jaejoong; “Don’t know. He left a week after you left.”
“What, where?”
“Don’t really know.” Yoochun mumbles. “For that week he was at school, he was miserable. He wouldn’t talk to anybody, he gave up everything. Literally everything, he stopped swimming and basketball and he handed over the class president to Kangin. He wouldn’t even talk to Changmin. And then a week later, Miss Lee informed us in class that Yunho had left. Nobody knows where.”
“Oh.” Jaejoong exhales, looking down and avoiding Yoochun’s gaze.
“You know what?” Yoochun speaks up. “It’s late, you must be tired. Why don’t you sleep now and we’ll talk more tomorrow, yeah?”
“Yeah.” Jaejoong forces a smile; Yoochun wishes him a good night and leaves for his room. Jaejoong tucks himself under the sheets and watches the shadows play on the ceiling of his room. And when he does fall asleep, he dreams of kissing a boy with a small mole over his lips.

The next day, when Yoochun and Jaejoong decide to meet Changmin at a café, for a cup of hot chocolate. After teasing the both of them to their wit’s end, Jaejoong decides to stop with a winning smile on his face.
“Whatever.” Changmin shrugs. “Told you I was going to date him one day.” He says and pinches Yoochun’s cheeks.
“Ow!” Yoochun frowns, rubbing his face. “Asshole.”
“What about you, Jaejoong?” Changmin asks, stealing a bite from Yoochun’s cake. “Have you dated anybody after moving to London?”
Jaejoong is about to answer when he sees a familiar face at the café’s counter. “Hold on.” He says and briskly walks over.
“Excuse me?” He taps at the stranger’s shoulder. When the stranger turns around, Jaejoong smiles. “You’re Jung Jinho - aren’t you? I am Kim - “
“I know who you are.” The man interrupts him. He’s a tall man with sharp, rugged features. Dressed in a well-tailored suit to fit his broad body. “I am in a little bit of a hurry, is there anything I can help you with?”
Jaejoong feels a little stumped and speechless. “Um, I just wanted to ask you something.”
“Alright, what is it?”
Jaejoong feels a little irritated at Jinho’s behavior. He had never spoken to the man before, this was the first time he was ever meeting him and even though he was much older than Jaejoong, he had no right to treat Jaejoong the way he was.
“You know what.” Jaejoong smiles politely. “You are in a hurry and my parents have always taught to me to never force myself on anyone. Nice people, my parents. I would have introduced them to you had them been alive.” Jaejoong bows and he’s about to turn and walk away when Jinho calls out to him.
“Kim Jaejoong, wait.”
Jaejoong turns around and Jinho is looking at him up and down. “You are nothing like I expected you to be.”
“I wasn’t grooming myself to fit your expectations.” Jaejoong scoffs.
Jinho chuckles; deep and throaty - reminding Jaejoong of Yunho. The knot tightens even more. “Why do our families hate each other?” Jaejoong asks, with a sigh.
Jinho picks up his cup of coffee to go and pays the man behind the counter. As much as Jaejoong hated to admit it, Jinho had intimidated him. Had it not been for the people around him in the café, Jaejoong was sure he would have peed himself
Jinho looks at Jaejoong, sharp brown eyes cutting into Jaejoong’s soul; “You want to know the truth?” He smiles. “Why don’t you ask your sister, Yuri? And then, we’ll talk.”
Jaejoong watches the powerful man exit the café, the knot in his stomach hardening.
